Yep. It's the fact that they won't get caught that's disconcerting. Especially when you consider the heightened level of security due to the current terrorist threat in the UK.

Well theres probably not a massive plus side in identifying who did it. They will be back in Moscow by now and there's no way that they would get extradited.

It would probably be worth identifying them. In case they try and pull some shenanigans again. Either in the UK or elsewhere. We are talking about some very nasty people.

Close their embassies, throw them out, double down on sanctions and impose a tariff of 2000pct on everything, roll in NATO in eastern Ukraine and kick Putins shadow army in the ass one more time. Your move mr. president. - I gurantee this is the only language he understands.

Absolutely, and I'm with you except for rolling in with NATO. That will just feed the fear machine that Putin and the rest of the Thieves rely on to distract/motivate the Russian populace. Deny him that but give Ukraine almost anything and everything it needs to expel Putin and his lackeys. We need to stand up for international borders. Turn the Donbass into another Afghanistan for them, where it breaks the wallet as much as the balls. Killing other Slavs in an attempt to bring back the old days is already a sore spot over there, let's put some salt on it.

He gets frisky with his Iskanders in Kaliningrad, all bets are off and NATO can go nuts.

*sigh*

We can dream, but back in reality the guy posing as CiC is a Russian asset. So much to do.

I would be willing to bet that American spies have done some pretty fucked up shit that nobody is aware of. I have no illusions about the "clean hands" of our intelligence own agencies.

Was any one actually doubting that fact? Does that have any bearing or absolve the Russians of what they do?

This is exactly the type of response that I have said is required, and Ive been saying it for years by now.

There is a massive plus, and its that those individuals will now be identified, the rest of the world can in some fashion keep some sort of track on them, and we can prevent those individuals from travelling to free countries in the future, forcing the Kremlin to find more individuals to carry out its dirty work.

I'm curious to see if the EU will treat this as a sign of aggression on their lands. Something like 21 people got sick apparently. I'm not sure how Russia will get away from this unscathed when its so blatant they are at fault here.

Sergei Skripals MI6 handler, Pablo Miller, was also a close associate of Alexander Litvinenko, and he worked regularly with Christopher Steele, including as a listed consultant for Orbis Business Intelligence, a company that Christopher Steele owned and ran. Pablo Miller was previously given the job of first secretary of the British Embassy in Tallinn as cover, where he worked under the name of Antonio Alvarez de Hidalgo. Russian media blew his cover way back in 2007.

Agreed..It is an attack on foreign soil, however, there needs to be undeniable proof.

Theyve gotten away with it every time previously, and the West never tries to hold them accountable. Even the current response since the Crimean invasion isnt much more than a heavy slap on the wrist.

So this guy being a source for Christopher Steele, pretty much proves that the Steele dossier really is a big nothingburger.

Required for what? What could be the unintended consequences of military engagement with Russia? If Putin sees an engagement in the Ukraine against NATO forces as an existential threat, what is to keep him from ending civilization in a nuclear holocaust? Perhaps there are more rational responses available than straight to bombing people?

Internet tough guy, huh?

Russia's strategic advantage in Ukraine is overwhelming. Ukraine is not a Nato member & I seriously doubt they want to end up like Syria or Grozny. They're also totally dependent on Russian energy along with eastern Europe in general.

Yea cause that is totally my mo traversing my 10 years on anandtech... Good on you picking up on that. So clever. *slow clap*.

The idea of pushing Russia out of Ukraine would be for them to surrender their position there and if they dont, keep the tanks rolling for moscow - and if you have to nuke, you have to nuke. Putin is heading for a conflict either way, of this I am certain and armed with this information you can either take charge of the situation or you can wait for a time and place of HIS choosing.
You want to pick another time and/or place? Fine, I am not a general ... But I do recognize that it is of paramount importance to strike back in a language that IS understood.

I doubt that Ukraine is in favor of what you suggest. Neither is Nato.

Is there some part of "overwhelming strategic advantage" you don't understand?
