Yea ... lets see if it amounts to sanctions or not ... and what sanctions.

Between the assassinations, election messaging, and Crimea, it's high time the world attacked Russia.
That country needs a severe economic isolation.

I mean, Im glad youve come around, IIRC you were one of the ones who was against or highly suspicious of people talking about fighting Russia back in 2014 or 2015, but I dont want to say we told you so, but we told you so.

Anyways, Im glad you can see the situation for what it is. IIRC that ethnic Russian/Ukrainian guy with the Barney Gumble avatar was initially outspoken about "how Russia sees it", but it literally took only a couple of months for him to go through the grief stages, and start accepting something needs to be done about Russia. Obviously there is a lot to the Russian side, including the West exploiting Russia during the 90s, but since Putin took office the Kremlin has basically become a terrorist organization. We cant fix Russia until we take out the Kremlin.

At least the UK is taking tough steps thus far, it would be nice to see someone other than tillerson offer something more than luke warm support.

Welp, so be us foolish mortals, who could ever try to frame innocent Russia for acts we must have done ourselves. Clearly it is the UK who is violating international law, not Russia.

"Russia has no answers for Theresa May about the nerve agent attack on British soil — and won’t provide any until the U.K. complies with international law, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a news conference on Tuesday."

Hopefully the UK.gov actually has some credible evidence. In the era of Brexit and Fake News, I wouldn't put it past them to go with the feels.

While I personally have very little doubt that this was a state-sponsored/organised attack by Russia, international politics calls for a somewhat higher bar than "some guy in the pub knows it for definite".

i find it odd that politco.eu goes from saying in one article "Russian manufactured nerve agent" to "a nerve agent that is produced in Russia"... which doesn't stop it being produced anywhere really, does it.

Not that 'credible evidence' will make any difference to Russia's current position, but if every other country considers the evidence to be sufficiently credible then perhaps Russia's options will be somewhat more limited and considered less trustworthy.

The agent wasn't a run of the mill nerve gas but one specifically designed by russia in a secret program that only came to light when a Russian whistleblower revealed it to the world that Russia was violating ban on chemical weapons. It's apparently highly secretive and sophisticated. The name of the agent is novichok which translates to newcomer. It's unlikely that some rogue element got the plans, then get all the materials, then decided to test it on a Russian ex spy in britain so brazenly.

When Putin poisons someone he wants the world to know it was Putin behind it. This is the horse head in the bed scene from The Godfather.

Is that what you remember? I'll speak for myself, cria 2014:

Failing that, Russia's presence constitutes an invasion. This is an act of war against the west. The west must respond with its own acts of war, to stop further Russian aggression. A line must be drawn, clearly, and backed with military force. It must not be crossed.

The rest of Europe / Ukraine must not be invaded by Russia. The invasion must end with Crimea, and go no further. Military deployments must be gathered in Europe and set towards purpose. If Russia crosses this line, its assets outside Russian borders must be seized, the assets that resist destroyed.

Take it to the ICC and watch the financial fallout send them back to the stone age.

Putin missed a terrific opportunity to say:
"Our words are backed with NUCLEAR WEAPONS"

Still, he's still got a ways to go to be Gandhi.

What do you think the oligarchs reaction to this will be? If this keeps up, people like Roman Abramovich could lose their ownership of their possessions in the UK like Chelsea F.C., and Abramovich is not going to be a happy camper if that happens.

I guess thats the whole point of these sanctions ... and why Trump cant be allowed to throw it all in the trash. I know there exists a consensus that "sanctions isnt working vs. russia" ... but this is just not true, if sanctions wasnt working Putin wouldnt be putting this much effort into getting them removed (installing Trump and psyops campaigns).

AP reporting that May says Russia guilty of attempted murder. Expelling 23 Russian "diplomats" (probably spies). All high level contacts with Russia suspended, visit by Russian FM Lavrov canceled. No UK gov presence at World Cup.
