That's funny. One day leaving work, my wife and I pulled up to a stop light and looked over to see a RedBull formula 1 car sitting next to us. It looked and sounded real, but I'm pretty sure it's just a marketing car running around town to promote RedBull.

FYI: This was on West End in Nashville

Edit: haha that video is a RedBull car! I'm now sure this is something they do in major cities. Sounded and looked the exact same.

I really doubt he could have. It was pretty wet out. If you watch the steering wheel it looks like he's fighting for control at times.

Plus you have to concider danger to others.

Yes that sounds is friggin' awesome!!! It almost sounds like a wounded animal or something.............but more creepy!!!

Too bad it's almost a friggin' injustice holding back so much horsepower like that!!! Maybe it was the car that was wounded. Maybe it hurt the car (and driver, LOL) to be drivin' that flippin' slow!!!!

As you watch the video you almost ache for that sucker to open up wide & just take off like a rocket!!!!!!!!!

(sigh)

Other than a partial run or two down that straight bit of highway, he was holding back the whole time, as I'm sure was part of the deal with the cops. He was nowhere near the limits of the car in wet conditions, but with the situation the way it was with people walking in the street and cars parked everywhere, going full out would have been enormously stupid and negligent.

That car was coasting most of the time and going so slow that it was probably getting pretty hot when they came up with the fire extinguisher at the end. The donut exhibition didn't help.

I saw pedestrians. as far as cars go, most likely. must have paid the city a lot of money to accomplish such a thing?

They close down Long Beach, CA. Monte Carlo, Monaco, and Surfer's Paradise, Australia every year.

F1 cars are freakin' awesome! I wish that would have been a dry day, we could have witnessed the thing stretching it's legs a bit more. Anywhere I can go to take one of those puppies for a spin?

Edit: Nevermind, found one for only $495 per lap

That engine noise sucks, sounded like a wounded Brontosaurus.

Really, how old are you?

How old are you?
I personally agree with n7 that the engine noise is sex.. but if he doesn't like it, that's his opinion. What's the deal of ATOT trying to ram their opinions up everyone's cornhole nowadays?

Too bad the road was way too wet for him to drive properly on. I'm surprised the car didn't overheat from lack of air running through the engine

Red Bull third driver Robert Doornbos fulfilled a childhood dream on Tuesday when he took to a Dutch highway in a Formula One car. Racing his RB2 down a closed-off section of the famous road atop the De Afsluitdijk dam, Doorbos reached a reported top speed of 326 km/h.

Doornbos himself came up with the idea for the display after being asked by Red Bull to reveal a childhood dream he wished to fulfill. The highway he picked is one of the Netherlands? longest and straightest, and runs along the dam, which divides the IJsselmeer Lake from the North Sea.

?Wow, this was really cool!? Doornbos told his official website afterwards. ?I had driven De Afsluitdijk already several times in a passenger car, but this is far more exciting! Thanks to everyone who helped us realize this crazy idea!?

The Netherlands may have not hosted a Grand Prix since 1985, but that didn?t stop local fans flocking from the nearby town of Den Oever to catch a glimpse of Doornbos?s record-breaking outing, which he concluded with some attention-grabbing doughnuts before tidily parking his RB2 in a nearby car-park.

I thought F1 cars are built for constant "wind sprints" (full throttle, brake, full throttle, brake, etc.,). I think if they run full open for an extended period of time (like on a super speed way) they'd blow up.

I could be wrong though, but I thought that was one of the major differences between CART/IndyCar design and F1. F1 is tailored specifically to road courses (lots of acceleration, but not a lot of sustained speeds) while CART/IndyCar have to straddle the line between running on road courses and running on ovals.
