Is it just me, or do a lot of these volpex WUs get stuck? I've aborted a few on Linux, and now I have one on a Windows box that looks stuck (no CPU being used) although it's only been running a half-hour.

I figured out what's going on. When Volpex isn't using the CPU, they're using my Internet. On a connection outside of BOINC! So it doesn't follow the proxy settings or net speed limits. So it's interfering with my SSH connections. D:

Maybe I'll let it run some nights and weekends, but for now I'm over Volpex.

I have collected the stats, but am also on-call. Let's see if I'll have the time to publish ...

Just want to be sure I'm helping the team out to the benefit of the team. Currently crunching on two boxes. Box one is an old Q6600 with 2GB RAM running all four cores on NFS at the moment (Was a great box in it's time) and box two is a Dell Precision 490 (Dual Xeon X5355s, 4 cores each) with 8 GB RAM and Windows 7. Running 7 cores with NFS and one core free to handle two Milky Way tasks at the same on the GPU (GTX620).
I understand it's not the most modern boxes, but any ideas how to impprove my output are welcome.

...the 16e subproject ( lasieve5f ) pays the most in points...uses up to 1GB or RAM per task, vs .5GB for the other one.

Other than exclusively running lasieve5f tasks (if you have enough RAM), there's not much more to do.

Linux is a few minutes faster on average per task than Windows 10 if anyone is feeling really adventurous.

OK guys, I have a nooby question:

It appears that Team USA in League 1 is our target to catch, or pass. I was looking at their projects and ours and the two teams do not have any projects in common. So I imagine there is some strategy involved. Would someone mind filling in the blanks, and bring me up to speed on how we might catch them. Right now I’m feeling like a mighty small fish in a mighty big pond...............^_^

Pokey we use to be a League 2 Team instead of League 1 Team in Formula-Boinc and things were a lot simpler. Now were not even on the radar for many projects and maybe that's where we should be looking is where I would hazard a guess to try to gain a bottom spot and 2 points. 2 cents.

Milkyway as a race continues this next week, but the CPU project is soon due for a change.

We are due to switch CPU projects at 1900UTC tomorrow (for North America, that's 3pm EST, noon pacific).

So unless we hear from petrusbroder to the contrary in the next 20 hours and 15 minutes, I propose the next CPU project to be Leiden Classical.

Leiden Classical has the goal of creating a free supercomputer for students and other scientists to run small (chemistry?) projects on. The points awarded are somewhat low, and it takes some time to get a full queue of tasks (don't 'update' to get more tasks, the server is set to move you to the back of the line, so to speak, if you manually request tasks).

The available tasks (748) at the moment looks good, barely enough to go around, but it's always like that.

I passed my SETI goal while I was out of town this week, so I'm ready to join the party. What is the current/next project?

I think leiden is a good choice for the next round. We have a good chance of overtaking and gaining some points there.
Will have to wait and see what petrusbroder says when he checks in next.

The only problem with going ahead on our own is that petrusbroder may not be able to properly track our points.

We all know how life and work can get in the way of our plans. I hope he is well.

Only 90 minutes to go until we were supposed to 1.) stay on MW one more week, but 2.) change CPU project.

It's about 6:00 or 7:00 pm? over in his neck of the woods. It won't hurt to wait a bit.

LeidenClassical it is ... and I've taken down the production scores --- which however will change a little when all "pending" are converted into confirmed.
And yes, RL interferes with obligations ...

I'll publish all the stats (incl. Leiden Classical) tomorrow ... it is way late just now ...

Leiden Classical seems out of work units and doesnt seem to have the ability to set CPU only

Leiden takes a while to ramp up work units when a lot of new computers attach to it. Its kind of strange, and the more you hit the "update" button to request more work units, the less you seem to get. Once you have some work units, then it is usually smooth sailing.
In the beginning you may want to leave another project enabled so you are not idling cores.

Glad to know it's nothing worse than being busy, Peter.

@QuietDad, you generally have to leave Leiden on for awhile before it will get work. I also noticed that the way I turned up the priority on volpex, when enabled, it prevented Leiden from getting any work.

Well no worries there in that the two boxes for this race aren't doing anything else at the moment. One has received a few WUs, the other one, not yet. The box that hasn't received Has Milky Way running on the GPU and the event log shows leiden trying to load CPU and GPU tasks. We'll see what it looks like in the AM

Hmm, my boxes rarely get Leiden work for some reason. Even if I suspend very other project, and/or set the priority ridiculously high for it, I still rarely get more than a few units at a time, and that's even with my CPUs o/w idle. Not sure why that is, so I am just going to turn on all my other projects, and I guess if I happen to get some Leiden units, great! Perhaps I am attempting to connect too often?

BTW, I am not manually forcing the update either.
