Sadly I don't see any opportunity to gain but 4 points before the end of the month (and end of Formula BOINC), which keeps us in our current standing.

Milkyway and Yafu, for 2 each, with NFS being a long shot at getting an additional 2 points.

Actually, now I'm thinking we might be able to do some real ladder climbing in Yafu.

Based on how low the scores are in the Formula B, I assumed Yafu must pay very poorly. Now that I've tried it, it pays fairly well, actually, up to 5000pts per day per machine.

Quickly glancing over our Leiden Classical scores, it seems we have the equivalent of 16 rigs, ready to run. 16 x 5000 = 80,000 per day, which in 21+ days might just take us from 6 points to 12.

In preparing for the transition to Yafu, I do not find it on the list of projects in Boinc Manager. Just how does one add this project? Add the url manually?

No. Even the GPU-only tasks use some CPU time, often times substantial amounts of CPU time.

About YAFU:

The tasks are multi-threaded.

To cut down on abuse, the admin requires an invitation code to join the project ( yafu is the code )

How to add YAFU to BOINC:

You have to sign up on the website, the password/invitation code is " yafu ":

http://yafu.myfirewall.org/yafu/create_account_form.php

Then as already mentioned, you have to manually insert the link http://yafu.myfirewall.org/yafu/ when adding the project to BOINC manager.

It just doesn't like to sit close to the other bits, afraid they'll byte I suppose. And with it's temper, it doesn't want to have to kill-a-byte, because that would just cause a mega problem, and the gig would be up.

Edit: Initial download is about 10MB, tasks are 462k (long tasks) and 132 bytes (short tasks. Yes, bytes).

Ok, that isnt so bad. I was thinking it would eat 1/5 of my monthly data allotment in one go. That could get quite pricey real quick.

YAFU is no fun when you mess with it's settings. Not playing very well with Milkyway either. Tried to reduce the number of cores it runs on, was sucessful, but now none of the tasks compete. Boo.

You got me to look. The Yafu WUs on my rigs are completing OK except for the occasional "not starting by deadline-canceled".

But the points didn't make sense until your Milkyway comment. The one computer I have that is turning out the points is the one that happens to be running Seti. The Milkyway rigs are getting hardly any points relatively speaking.

Has anyone tried running Yafu on a computer with no GPU??? I have not myself. Might have to suspend Milkyway on one to see.

Tried running Yafu on a Windows 7, C2D, 2GB RAM with plenty of HD and evrything errored out with

Yafu is not a project that plays well with all computers ... I agree.
On the other hand we have gained the points we've lost and need to get a healthy margin ... so let us crunch a few more WUs - at least those of us who have computers that work well with Yafu ...
