What an incredible end to the season. I was on the edge of my seat right up to the last lap.

When Sebastian Vettel passed Hamilton for 5th place with 2 laps to go my heart was in my throat...I thought it was done and then as they came around the last turn and I saw the Toyota of Timo Glock sliding around on dry tires I simply couldn't believe my eyes. To see the joy in the Ferrari garage and then the sudden realization that Hamilton finished 5th...simply amazing.

I felt really really bad for the Brazilian fans and especially for Felipe Massa though. I don't think I've ever seen a race winner look so unhappy on a podium. Felipe handled the press conference in the best possible way though. He truly is as gracious in winning as he is in defeat. I kind of hope he wins the WDC next season with Ferrari.

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton though, the youngest driver ever to win a Formula One World Driver's Championship. Well done!

I'm sure everyone will be blaming Glock, but it really wasn't his fault that he slid there. He never would have been ahead if he had put on intermediate tires like everyone else.

Grats to Hamilton. It's justice after Spa.

They can't blame Glock. Toyota took a gamble and it didn't pay off.

What a great end to a great season though. Fantastic race!

What an amazing end to the season. That race was truly something to not be missed. I still think Alonso should have replaced Kimi, but oh well. Let's see how the new aero, slicks, and KERS changes up things next year. I would have loved to see Massa win, but grats to Lewis! Oh and Vettel.

Great ending and I'm glad Hamilton finally did it. And yeah, I'll admit that I got a nice schadenfreude buzz watching the faces in the Ferrari garage at the exact moment of realization.

I don't understand why SpeedTV announcers seemed to be caught completely by surprise in the last lap of a wet race (yet again) with regard to where the top 6 cars are on the track. I know the network is too cheap to send them on-location and they have no control of the video feed either, but they constantly allude to having scoring and timing information straight from FIA. The last split they gave on Hamilton vs. Glock was with 3 laps to go and it didn't even come from the announcers, it was the "world feed" graphics. It's obvious in hindsight that Hamilton and Vettel must have been eating Glock up in those last 2 laps, but Varsha was about as informed as us dumbasses watching at home at the end of that race -- hmm, that might be a Toyota, wait that must be Timo Glock, "THAT'S TIMO GLOCK!!!"

I like the mix of personalities on their announce team, and Matchett brings *infinitely* more technical info than we ever got in the old ESPN days, but WTF.

Congratulations to Hamilton for winning the Driver's Championship. He was the man I was pulling for but I, too, felt bad for Massa. I like Massa as a driver but not Ferrari so his loss of the title was bittersweet.

With the confirmed and proposed changes coming next season here's hoping Bernie and Company don't completely screw up the sport.

That was the most dramatic finish to any race I've ever seen! When the BMW team informed their drivers that there could be rain toward the end of race, I knew it was going to go down to the wire...only that I couldn't anticipate anything like this.

Weather God loves Hamilton, doesn't he?

Does he? Honestly, I think with 15 laps to go he would have much preferred to see the race finish in the dry considering he was running comfortably in 4th and would have had no trouble conceding 5th to Vettel if he felt that he couldn't hold him off.

can someone pls give a background story?

so hamilton had to finish minimum 5th to clinch the driver's title?

so If massa won (which he did), and hamilton was out of 5th then Massa would've won?

Well done, Hamilton. Great to have a British F1 champion again, it's been too long(1991).

What a stunning race, my heart was in my mouth the whole race, I wanted to kill Vettel when he passed Hamilton, but blamed Kubica a little for distracting him on the corner. At the end of it me and teh GF were jumping up and down screaming!

Even worse is that if Hamilton finished in 6th place, he would have lost the championship by 0 points. Massa would have won the tie break by having more 1st and 2nds.

Would have been the ultimate epic fail to lose by 1 point last season and 0 points this season.

After watching that, i'm glad we have the current Speed channel announcers. Those guys are boring.

Well I would say otherwise. They are a very knowledgeable team with more than one ex-F1 driver commentating every weekend. This was actually the last race to be covered by ITV, and even though back in 1997 I was VERY sceptical after years of excellent BBC coverage they took up the challenge very well.

It's going back to the BBC again, so no advert breaks, but who knows what the commentary will be like.

Actually, Damon Hill was the last British F1 Champion in 1996.

I like the Speed TV crew. Wish we could have gotten some word on how far Glock was ahead of Hamilton when that final lap began though.

I'm curious, is the Peter Windsor driver interview broadcast on ITV or does Louise Goodman do another set of interviews?

Do you mean the Podium finishers press conference? We get that on ITV, then after that you may get analysis from the team or pit lane interviews with Louise Goodman.

martin brundle and mark blundell are great, the rest can go. i don't need to see louise drooling over jenson button ever again.

peter windsor handles the official post race press conference, carried by everyone. when he says "and now, a few words in your own language" that's the cue to put something else on.

edit:
timo f'ing glock!
