It might be that if the fan doesn't meet expected parameters, the Dell board just runs it at full speed. I already learned this lesson once, which is don't buy Dell or HP motherboards and expect them to work outside of their own proprietary system, but it was cheap, $30 compared to over $100 for comparable Supermicro boards. There's a reason for that, though. Maybe this time I have really learned my lesson. haha.

I added an edit while you posted, you could always solder a resistor to the fan(s).

I've been building a 2nd bunker with some machines, hoping to give OCN a false sense of security. Well they may have a sense of security, but it isn't false. They pulled far away and continue to increase their lead.

Then OcUK started catching up, and they're watching us. // pretend to insert a ninja or spy hat wearing smiley here // So hello to ozaudio and PDW. Anyway, I faced a dilema...keep the bunker and make OcUK try harder by being so close to catching us, or dump it and perhaps crush their spirit. So I dumped it, and our lead looks much better now, but they are actively recruiting, so it may well be a battle yet.

I'm at full speed, Cap'N! I'm running 304 threads, with nothing left to give. I like OcUK's term for this, I must be an "IT nutter."

Regardless, a Silver or Bronze medal would keep us ahead of AMD Users in the Marathon.

Well, you've inspired me to give a little more. Several of my GPU-only machines actually have i3s in them, and are now giving 2 or 3 threads each to this sprint, with the idea that every little bit counts! That brings my thread count to 73, nowhere near you, but maybe a solid second for the TeAm.

@Markfw Any chance you want to suspend WCG and give us 24 hours running NumberFields@home? We could use a 300k points boost.

@Pokey Any chance you want to suspend SETI cpu for 24 hours and give us 24 hours running NumberFields@home? We could use your fleet's output.

I have 6 now doing WCG. How many do you need ?

I have 148 threads running WCG

I added it to one computer, but its running WCG and this.

All of them, but save enough threads to keep your GPU's running of course! That may be enough to catch up to OCN, who will no doubt read this, and then start up a few reserve boxes of their own, lol. There are 51 hours left of this sprint race.

@Pokey !!

No points yet, but close. Doesn't look like the marathon points have updated yet today.

Quite the battle in League One, SETI.USA and Gridcoin, with only a few thousand points of separation. Across all 3 leagues, we're in 4th place. Not bad!

I have a crazy idea. You say NF@H stats are based only on runtime? I wonder how it would react if you set each WU to something like .25 cores with an app_config.xml file?

Alternatively, and perhaps more practically, you could spin up several VMs, all using the same real cores, but all appearing to use 100% of all cores.

"Just a heads up...
WUs with a name like sf3_DS-12x271 average about 12 hours on my 3.6 GHz core i7." Quoted from admin at NF@H.

I have one at 12 hours and 84% on a machine with all this type. I will suspend these after a while and get short ones hopefully. Juggling is the word I guess I wish he had kept the WUs all the same size.

We will have to watch how long they take and not let any of these run toward the end!!!

tasks/core/GHz/day

I remember this post but was confused as to what you were trying to say. I get it NOW, after studying it a bit, or I think I do.

Is the main point that the points awarded DO increase based on faster turn around times/faster hardware?

Great idea though Ken! Still might prove useful though if someone runs some theoretical times.

Circa a day's work:

Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz:
15 tasks (3.2 tasks per core and GHz and day)
1,870 points (125 points per task)

Phenom II X4, 2.5 GHz:
39 tasks (3.9 tasks per core and GHz and day)
5,076 points (130 points per task)

i7-4960X, 4.5 GHz, 11 threads used:
193 tasks (3.9 tasks per thread and GHz and day, 7.1 tasks/core/GHz/day)
28,639 points (148 points per task)

Well now I have put every thread I can spare into this sprint, even the dual cores are lending one apiece, probably cutting into GPU production a bit here and there, but all for fun and a tiny bit of glory!

78 threads, it's all I've got!

Something is wrong with Boinctasks. For example on of my boxes says it has done 10,384, and Boinctasks says it has done 735. Where can I see the real total points have have done in NF@home ??

I assume by now you've checked your account to see the points, Mark. Points for this one are low, and there is a funky equation regarding the points, that seems to favor how LONG you crunch a task, versus just purely how MANY you crunch. There seems to be a baseline score for the different tasks, complete it faster, get a tiny bonus, but not much. Thanks for throwing in some cores!

I have added it to all 6 boxes, and in 8 hours have 21,838 credits. Is that good ?

If my math is right, It looks like your Xeons should do 1,728 points per day per thread. What were you getting in WCG?

I think Number Fields only exports stats once per day.

308 completed tasks in 8 hours...so, that's good. But due to how long some of the tasks are, 8 hours is hardly enough to make a judgment, but yes, I think that's great considering it's possible some threads are still running their first task. I've seen tasks from 2 seconds to 23 hours and everywhere in between, but with an average for me of 4-6 hours.

EDIT: Eh, something is wrong with the Ryzen 7 1700X, you are only getting 1/4 the credit you should be getting. 7000-8000 seconds should NOT be getting only ~50 points. The other systems are A-Ok.

Edit #2: Your run time versus your CPU time is way off the the Ryzen 7 1700X, by 10 to18 minutes. Check to make sure you are not exceeding 100% load on the CPU, as it seems you are running 16 threads plus maybe a GPU? Virus Scan? Something is stealing time from NumberFields.

I think my VM trick may be working. I benchmarked with the full processor, but I'm running the VM against 2 PrimeGrid processes with HT on. 2 HT cores were getting about 300/WU, about 3 hours per 2 WU. 4 VM cores on 2 HT cores are getting about 400/Wu, about 6 hours per 4 WU.

Well, all 6 boxes are running WCG AND NF@home, and 2 of the boxes are also doing work for F@H using video cards. I could pause F@H, but not sure how to pause WCG without totally removing it.

And how do you see individual boxes ?? The link above is just totals. All of this is new to me, so bear with me as I learn. F@H, I am an expert, WCG a novice, NH@Hone a bumbling idiot.

Here is what I see for Boinctasks:

And F@H

3 of the 6 BOINC boxes have video cards running F@H, 2 of the Xeons, and one Ryzen

Edit: One of the 6 I forgot to add NF@home to, now added. So the last 10 hours for 27,375 points was for 5 boxes.
