@Orange Kid, I don't know whether to cheer or curse that you drew us into this in the first place. The sprints alone were like 2-3x "project of the month", plus the several campaigns in the marathons that we did.

Re this last sprint, it also catapulted us from 16th to 13th in the team totals at CSG proper.

Cheers to OaUK (sic) who evidently went into this sprint well prepared!

And congratulations to OCN who have been leading this league during this entire season in total points!

What a sprint. Cold snap maybe the reason why OcUK has comfortable position on this sprint.
Next year, we'll have 21 sprints which start from March 22nd and finish on November 25th. Until then, I'll keep on crunching my main projects and let the big guns warm their house with F@H and B@H challenge.

Guess he thinks everyone has the same time schedule and not everyone from around the world participates in these events.

If they want to change the rules to be like Primegrid, I would not care, but there must be at least one day notice of the project to be fair to all our teams around the world.

Bunkering will still happen anyway...

Races can't be done the PrimeGrid way unless you have access to the project servers. So that's not happening for multiple projects.

IMO, by shortening sprint announcement time, will worsen the traffic jam, especially in smaller projects that don't have the ability to handle such traffic surge and probably will be taken down by it. As Stefan mentioned few days earlier, it will be more like Formula DDoS than Formula BOINC.

Guess EVGA want's to manipulate a league to their advantage so they'll have a chance at winning.

Honestly that's not it, we are a small team and do not expect to win, it is an idea of a fair playing field, where everyone starts and stops at the same time. His train of thought.
Myself bunkering does not bother me really, don't like it but I do it, it IS part of the game, I get it.
.(Should baseball teams start early and bunker runs?) no, that would be silly right? Maybe bunker some laps in the Datona 500...
Someone just had a good point, people all over the world do this, well true. But people all around the world do primegrid too.
Start time could rotate around the globe, everyone can have a PITA start time. Not gonna happen, I get it.I accept the fact it is what it is.
I am sure as said it is not easy to set up with the servers having access and all, but still don't have to love it. Bet a script can be made to capture the points between timestamps.

I know this is all in good fun and I love team competition and the back and forth. What is fun for some, is too much for others.
Tony I apologize for the "cat" comment, what you and I see as funny, others do not. And I had to go farther. Again I apologize. I did not represent my team very well. I am sorry.
I also apologize for the misunderstanding, We do not want anyone to not get credit for their hard work. Miss the "sprint deadline" maybe, well ok yes dang it.
But not miss the final deadline where the work is lost and has to be resent. I see it as silly games, sometimes silly prizes. (Darwin effect)

As far as DDoS, can't say it is not like that right after the sprint starts.. Some weaker servers it maybe an issue, I don't know. That has to be a pounding the first few hours.
Few years ago we went through this before with pogs. The pogs admin did not care, in fact said "go for it, give us your best shot" It is a good test of our servers.

Again, sorry for the misunderstanding, wish you guys the best of luck next year in league 1
Happy holidays

Oh, and I am sorry for this big wall of text too, I do not expect you to read it all.

I did indeed pocket a silly prize: Stories being made up in your forum of what I did and said. It's just a single member though, and I'll get over it.

Overall it was loads of fun to have these sprints together with your team. Glad you were there during summer when we were just three* teams, with OCN taking vacation.

--------
*) OK, really four, as meisterkuehler always participated too, and for a team of their size have an incredible result in overall points now.

PS, regarding the lead time from announcement to start of a sprint:
Someone just had a good point, people all over the world do this, well true. But people all around the world do primegrid too.
The PrimeGrid subproject of each of their challenges is known many months before the race. The only change on shorter notice this year was when they cancelled the SoB LLR race. (AFAIU because the new application version wasn't deemed ready for production at the intended time.) I for one used this long announcement period to look for a good config for my hosts ahead of several of this year's PrimeGrid challenges.

That's very different to Formula Boinc's mode where you don't know the project up front, and need to adapt overnight to applications and WUs that you may have never crunched before, or crunched many months ago for the last time and WU properties could have changed since. In addition you sometimes need to adapt to slow project servers, weird task quota, and so on. If you are new to the project, you also want to read up about the science, goals, and organizations behind the project unless you aren't picky with those. (Having team mates who know the project makes a huge difference, if you can be in touch with them during this hectic starting period.)

That's very different to PrimeGrid where everything can be tested systematically in the time ahead, and the project server is so reliable that there is not even much risk involved in a preset schedule for fetching tasks, if you cannot be at the helm yourself at the beginning of the challenge.

PPS,
being as silly as I was found out to be, I made it my goal at one of the PrimeGrid races to have the straightest line of points-over-time compared to the next competitors. Indeed it turned out well in comparison, but I was probably the only one marvelling over it.

Thank you everyone for participating in 2017 FormulaBOINC races. We're moving to 1st league, I guess (FB page is still in new year's eve party mode at the time of writing).
Can't wait for the first 2018 FB Sprint.

additional note: To those who really want to experience such a camaraderie that sometimes missing in our daily life, this is the right place to go because this place has plenty of them.
