Ah well... I do have another box that I could try the 7970 in, but I promised the spousal unit that I'd help refinish the kitchen cabinets. Holy Hannah, it's going to take all weekend and then some! :|
Win 10 kept hosing my 280x's until I turned that auto update hardware and app crap off.
Good luck on those cabinets! I just spent the last 6 hours replacing lower ball joints and upper control arms on my F150. Now its beer and bourbon and catch up on the stats!

OK, it's time to document my GPU computing n00bness. I had the air cooled W7000 + GTX1070 system cobbled together shortly before the sprint, as a band-aid while the water cooled triple-GPU box was down. I stuck the GTX1070 beneath the W7000; both cards having triple-slot open-air coolers.

This setup bluescreened three times, causing downtimes of 2 h, 1/2 h, and last night 10 h. I have no idea whether this was due to overheated W7000, overheated X79 PCH, AMD driver, or NVIDIA driver.

I swapped the cards now - W7000 below, GTX1070 on top. Now the GTX1070 is too noisy to have it anywhere else than in an unused room (which I am in shortage of). After the race I will try to get it in check with lower frequency and voltage, but higher temperature. But my suspicion that an air cooled dual-GPU system simply cannot be made as quiet as I need it to be has been reinforced.

My current WU count according to einstein@home's web site:
Invalid: 2 WUs
Valid: 79 pages (1572 WUs)
Pending: 44 pages (865 WUs)
I.e. 2/3rds of my completed WUs are validated before the sprint ends.

(I kind of like how PrimeGrid counts completed WUs already before validation during a challenge.)

No major point gains this time but a solid 2nd in the sprint and shored up our place in the Einstein Marathon
Thanks to all.

OCN really earned that gold. They beat everybody, including the league 1 teams!

Congrats to OCN for this impressive victory!

I think the major factor to their success was their cheerleading team they didn't even knew they had stationed in Tennessee. ;-)

Also, our 2nd place in the league is pretty solid indeed: We scored almost as many points as the 3rd, 4th, and 5th ranked teams in our league in combination.

(And to me it was a fun and exciting intro into Einstein@Home, just my 4th GPU computing experience after F@H, PG PPS-Sieve, and a little bit of MooWrapper.)

You guys did great too! And our "cheerleader" was a lot of fun. Lookin' forward to the next Sprint, which starts in just four days!

I'm a noob to BOINC too. Been running F@H for several years. Didn't realize what I was missing. Recruit your folder's!

Wow, we came in 2nd in our league, and 3rd in League 1, that's very impressive, gentlemen! Well done!

OCN's comeback was very impressive too!

Cheerleader, eh?

Ya, I like the idea of the sprints, but think this many may be overkill. I'll see what it is and go from there.
Metoo, my Einstein cache hasn't even finished crunching and I turned off receiving new tasks Sunday, for the 280x's. 13 pages of tasks waiting for validation.

I'll try to do this next one, but on the 27th I will be on vacation, if any of my machines have problems that can't be handled remotely, there will be nothing for it.

August-September and October-October races are only a few days apart, and of course this next one. The rest are every 2 weeks. Not sure on the reasoning for the 3 back to back ones, but only 3 days every 2 weeks is brilliant in my opinion.

if it's a GPU task tomorrow, I'll have to dump all these Einstein Wu, hate to, but I did have it set for 10 days. But no project has ever actually full filled it!

Any second now, and the next project will be announced, so bunkering can begin. Regarding the overall standings (marathon), we should easily move up from 7th to 6th place after this Sprint.

And the project is: NumberFields@home

Stefan, you're doing too well at the PrimeGrid challenge to switch off to this one. We would utterly drop in the standings without you there. Just my 2 cents worth.

Number Fields.....hmmm, oh, good, I was thinking NFS. NFS takes about 1GB of RAM per task, this one (NumberFields) is not so demanding.

Short tasks, maybe. The progress bar immediately jumps to 50% upon starting a task, so the estimated 90min run time is suspect at best.

NumberFields@home is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to do research in number theory. ..... searches for fields with special properties. The primary application of this research is in the realm of algebraic number theory. Number theorists can mine the data for interesting patterns to help them formulate conjectures about number fields. .....will lead to a deeper understanding of the properties of numbers, the basic building blocks of all mathematics.

Tony, how did you guess that I am wondering right at this moment whether to partake in a math CPU race, or in a math CPU race?

I, for one, am planning not to join this race unless I see we're out of the top 10 tomorrow.

Edit: On second thought, I'll try it on my one machine that doesn't have AVX.

BTW, Formula BOINC lists NumberFields@home as being in alpha stage.

I just wanted to make a quick check whether or not it uses AVX: "Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks. Project has no tasks available."

Anyway, I'll retry on an Ivy Bridge-E.

They are out of work. that went fast. I sent a pm to the main guy? on the message boards, but who knows.
I set mine at a 50/50 split on the two projects. So you will hardly notice I'm missing or am there. LOL

Browsing the nf@h forums a bit.

link: "Ignoring the handfull of really long WUs, 15+ hours is not uncommon, but most should be less than that." (March 2016)

link: No "double checking", checks are done by the server's combiner. Does this mean a quorum of one? (March 2017)
