You'd think the owners of a tech site would be able to figure this out lol. Considering how random it is, it's probably not a routine job on the server, maybe something more related to the host, but they should be looking at that, like monitoring bandwidth and stuff. I assume it's on a dedicated server and not a shared host.

Just hit a 502 Bad Gateway again.

For what used to be one of the premier tech site on the internet, this stuff should be embarrassing to management.

For what it's worth this is what a traceroute looks like from my web server (seems my ISP or local firewall is blocking outgoing ICMP traffic so testing it from there)

Code:
traceroute to forums.anandtech.com (45.32.83.182), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

They both use the same provider but Tom's Hardware forum is fine, so it must be the specific node that runs this forum that's having an issue.

Can't seem to connect directly to these IPs either, which is interesting, but maybe it has to do with the reverse proxy setup they have going.

What a joke. This WILL end the last good forum out there IMHO. And no, I don't consider Reddit a forum. I'd hate to end up there because AT can't fix their stuff.

Maybe their RAID 5 array keeps losing a Seagate SMR HDD every few days and then we have to suffer the degraded and rebuild mode slowness.

And no, they can't afford CMR HDDs anymore for a while. They spent all their budget buying significantly discounted refurbished SMR HDDs in bulk. So their only resolution is replacing the failed SMR HDD every few days. It's a great cost saving strategy if you ask me. Just not that good for the typical users. Old people like us have nowhere else to be so their strategy is working fine!

This is beyond ridiculous.

It's like it's being hosted in some teenagers closet, sharing his parents internet...

- "Oh my God Mom how many times do I have to tell you not to pick up the phone!"

"What are these screeching noises on the phone deerie, I thought you were passed your satanism phase..."

"It interrupts the dial-up connection and dozens (dozens!) of nerds on Anandtech cry out in rage!"

My local ISP had a glitch where you could buy the smallest Internet scratch card and the dial-up wouldn't disconnect after the card ran out. I remember once I kept the phone engaged for 3 days straight by telling my parents that I was downloading training materials from the internet (some MS cert dumps, maybe max 50MB), showed that to them and got them to issue a house wide order to my siblings not to touch the phone.

What I didn't tell them was all the naughty videoclips I also added to the download list (stuff I couldn't even imagine coz the shared stuff there was best in class). The filesharing client was eDonkey2000

Probably the best 1000+ megabytes I ever downloaded on dial-up!

I remember scheduling a p2p program, think it was Kazaa, to auto dialup on a schedule and resume downloads. Downloaded AutoCAD 2000 over the course of a few weeks that way. I'd schedule it to dialup on Sundays while we're at church as it was the most likely time that nobody would need the phone or even notice it. I would also manually resume it as much as I could any time I would go online.

Dialup also had a limited amount of hours you could use per month so always had to keep tabs on that. Man, as much as I feel nostalgic of those days I don't exactly miss it. I remember getting so excited when we got DSL, it was basically my Christmas present. I still remember opening that box and seeing that giant Mainstreet Xpress modem in it. 1mbps always on internet. The pinnacle of the future, right in our own house!

A post I just made today is dated Saturday. This must be some sort of glitch. See post# 628 on this page. There was even a "like" as soon as I hit the post button.

Website is slow again, but I think "Red Squirrel" has found the problem. The problem seems to be occurring over at coresite.com , which I do not think Future PLC has any controll over. I think it is time for Future PLC to find a new cloud service provider. Wonder why can't they use Azure for hosting the website, and they are using some knockoff cloud provider.

Coresite is probably cheaper.
