I guess you are generally hateful to everybody on these board, eh?
Issues == things you are having problems with == complaints.

Since you aren't posting any issues about the update, you're the one not helping here.
I never said the word complaints. Get your sh|t straight. Issues are problems with the software, negative comments are the "this sucks" and "if it ain't broke don't fix it" comments.
What is the root issue at hand? Why are we straying away from the problem and into things surrounding it? This is why lots of threads in OT and other places get locked - we don't look at the root issue that it bowls down to, but rather love to make things personal and argue on semantics. When that happens, the discussion goes nowhere at all.

The issue, as I see it, is that everytime an upgrade happens, issues from the past aren't even considered. If they were, they need to be considered again.

AT'ers ALWAYS whine when an upgrade happens - why not just leave the user interface alone, or just offer themes going back to older versions? Like I said in a previous post, I love AT - we've got a great set of folks here that have some great discussions, or just kind of talk about anything at all, and that's what I love about it. When we get issues like the interface changing, it makes you wonder why they mess with it at all. Upgrade the backend if you want to, but leave our stuff just the way it is. Establish some standards, and stick to them.

It's like politics, even if we've seen what's happened in the past, we won't learn from it, and won't even consider planning for it in the future, let alone live happily in the present.

Hi Jason, generally a good upgrade but here are a few issues which I would really like to see addressed:

  1. The Side Bar: Categories are now below Buddies which means I have to scroll down every time I want to change categories. Also the new side bar seems to take up a lot more space for no apparent reason. This means that there is less room for the main content and means more scrolling. Also, even though there is more space the category names are still truncated. What would be really cool would be the ability to choose what exactly you want on the side bar and the order that you would like it in. Something that could be changed in the profile settings.
  2. Forum Navigation: Unlike the previous version, hyperlinks do not change color when visited. This makes it much harder to find threads that I have visited previously. Also there is no Last button to take you to the last page in a thread. Another thing still wasn't fixed from the previous versions is the nested quoting. Other forum software I have seen removes all the nested quotes and only quotes the last person in the chain. This would be great to have.
  3. General Forum Appearance: The new look is pretty neat but it would be nice if there were more color schemes to choose from, specifically one that resembled the previous theme. None of the new ones match Anandtech main theme as well as the old one. Also the new default theme is too "bright" with all the blue. The old theme's blue was much less noticeable.
Also another thing worth pointing out is there is a lot more wasted space than the previous version. For some reason all of the tables seem to take more space leaving less room for the main content. I'm sure you could cut down on their size without really hurting anything. Perhaps you could have a "lite" option with skinner menu bars, etc.

Here are some screenshots showing some of the issues with the new version and comparing it to the old version.

why get rid of the nested quoting

Best post in the whole thread, nice comparison pictures.... except that it makes me miss the old version.

I concur!

Hopefully "they" will start w/ Shawn's 1st point:

The scrolling all the way down issue is giving me a headache

I was trying to think all day of what the new layout reminds me of, then I loaded Word 2007 and there it was! I love the blue, it seems nobody else does haha but I think it's a nice change, you can only do so damn much with orange.

this crap is too bright. I tried all the skins and my eyes hurt. WTH, this sucks ;[ It would be better with a darker skin compared to these bright white ones with the border color only changed.

Indeed, but why should we be surprised? This sort of thing happens every time that AT gets upgraded to a new alpha version of Fusetalk. Eventually a few of the bugs do get fixed, with a few more introduced (kind of the way Microsoft software goes).

Search Update: Now the regular search feature is searching in Topic Tittle, and the Body, but still not in Topic Summary

The only complaint I can really make is the themes, for the same reasons that everyone else has mentioned. The white is just too bright. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the upgrade. Then again, I like any kind of change. On a side note, the forum categories are changing everytime I click refresh. It was wigging me out until I saw the notice. Glad they're rearranging some. Thanks for the work you guys are doing.

Forum looks good. I still think additional detailed categories would make it even better, such as, topics on "memory", "power supplies", "audio", etc. Makes it much easier to find specific information. Just a wish to make a great forum even greater....

Good job

Yeah, that really bothers me as well. Otherwise it's good.

That and obfuscation - what's the point? I wish you coders with nothing better to do would leave well enough alone. Was nice while it lasted. Adios.

Hang in there, people are listening and watching.

Is this is an actual beta release of FuseTalk that AT is testing again, or is this a release version? I can't imagine release software would have this many glaring issues, especially things that weren't issues in previous versions.

Way too much WASTED space.

Also, it's very difficult now to tell what's supposed to be a link and what's supposed to just be plain underlined text.

Whatever CSS sizing and DHTML they did also OBVIOUSLY wasn't tested in firefox. I'm constantly getting things wrapping off the screen.

The themes suck, all the color schemes make the board really look half-assed.

Search field is way too wide, stretching the left menu

The fact that visited links dont change color is very frustrating since i use that to monitor the threads i've posted in

My only problem is that all the sub-categories should be the default at the left plane to allow users to click between the forums quickly - other than that - it's been a great upgrade...

/of course maybe I missed something in front for me to let me set that as the default...
//and good work ladies and gents - i'm liking the new upgrade quite a bit...
///but also would like a color to denote previous clicked threads - that would be spiffy as well.....

////and a million dollars in cold hard cash, since I'm making demands.....

Dude... You got logged in as the moderator? Now THAT is a cool bug!

One time a couple of months ago, when I logged on, it logged me on as someone else. Really weird considering I have automatic log on and I have never heard of the person that it logged me in as.
