Forums are extremely slow

As an experiment, what about limiting forum searches to registered (and logged-in) members?

That said, I am suffering many nearly 3-5 minute page loads, but only on my two 1007U laptops. One running Linux, one running Win7 64-bit. However, my other two PCs, one with an AMD C-60, one with a C-70, I get page load times in the 10-15 second range.

One of the differences, I've discovered, is that both of them are running downrev Waterfox versions. One 16.01, one 13.0.

The problematic machines are running the newest version of Waterfox and Firefox (in Linux).

There seems to be an issue with newest Firefox codebase and dynamic1.anandtech.com.

Edit: Ok, I've downgraded Waterfox on my Win7 64-bit 1007U laptop, to 16.x, and now things are relatively speedy again. Yay!

Also discovered a bugfix release, 27.02, just came out. Going to try that one next.

Edit: That version may also have fixed the 5-minute page load times. Have to test longer to make sure it's not just coincidence.

Maybe this will help a bit. Sometimes the page load quickly, others it hangs at one request, usually the first get request on the page. Normally it takes from 800ms to 1.2s for that reply, others it takes 15-30 seconds like below.

The addon is firebug if others wanted to get similar info.

I was having problems last week, and I cleared out my anandtech.com cookies and restarted Firefox. Seems to have worked. Didn't have issues with any other sites, and when I pulled up the site in Safari then it worked fine.... slow, but fine.

I was having problems up until a few minutes ago, until I cleared all anandtech cookies and rebooted. The forums are working fine for me now. Good call:thumbsup:

This is just plain BS. I'm lucky if I get to read 10-15 threads per hour, due to hideous page load times. Primarily late at night EST.

Is the forum hoster firewalling off all of Asia? Because they probably should be. Maybe it's Chinese hackers slowing the forums down.

Anandtech Forums is by far the slowest site I use on a daily basis. Sometimes frustrating slow.

I use Chrome and experience major slowdowns only on Anandtech Forurms. Has been this way for a while. Some days worse than others.

The page will sort of load, but mid-post it will hang, then a little bit longer (1-2 minutes), I'll get the rest of the post, and maybe a few more if I'm lucky. Other times, it seems to hang, and I have to reload. Which may hang at a blank browser screen, or some times it loads the whole thread.

Yes this happens to me under FF 27.0.1 under OSX 10.9.2 and chrome 33.0.1750.149.

It seems to work better on the ipad but even on that it is still slower than any other forum I visit.

It's my problem too, and I'm suspicious that it might have to do with cookies, because every time I delete my AT cookies, the forum gets fast again.

Odd. I'm not seeing any such issues.

A site this size has to be running pools of servers. Maybe we need diagnostics to see which server you guys are landing on. I suspect it may be one of the servers in the pool that is the issue.
