I mostly agree, we bought the WRX actually for my wife for a street car with fun/beginner track car (I admit, I have a whussy Civic). For someone new to track driving the sure-footness of AWD is nice but overall I greatly prefer RWD on or off the street.

Yeah, the gears on the WRX are pretty short but I still prefer the "always there" power of NA.

LS engines are pretty slick, said buddy of mine's wife just got a C6 Z06 and that LS7 is a monster. Big engine/torque motor + run flat tires = scary times.
RWD is great, but the realities of inclement weather and high power can be damning. My next car will either be an Evolution (unlikely), a Corvette or maybe another GTO. I need a good car for my fiancee before that happens though.

I agree, bad weather can suck and if the wife and I move back to St. Louis eventually AWD will be amazingly helpful (snow, what's that?) but there are few times 'round here that I think RWD would be an issue. Heck, we don't even get that much rain.

I'm glad I don't have my GTO in South FL. 1/2 the year is a rainy season and when it rains, it pours. You can drive safely with a RWD V8 in the rain, especially with a stability control system like the Corvette's, but pulling out into traffic or accelerating with any power is tricky. With my Legacy, I have to go balls-out through a turn in 1st to lose traction in the rain.

Heh, my buddy told me about the first time he decided to play with TC off in his Z06 (once again, with crappy run flats). He said that one time was the last time he'd try that trick (and this was in the dry).

With is Viper + good tires he can pretty much go balls out and it's very predictible, with the C6 + RF's he barely pushed it at all and next thing he knew his tail was trying to tag the headlights.

Yeah I hear the C6Z is a handful at the limit, and the runflats are pure fail. A good friend of mine DD's a C5Z all year, with (non-runflat) summer tires (in NC). A decent 02-03 C5Z runs ~$20K right now - that sounds just right for an 11-second beast that has lots of room to grow.

Yeah, I've looked at the C5Z's a bit, price : performance it's a tough deal to beat.

Honestly he wants to put better tires on the Z06 but he actually enjoys taking it on trips and it has no spare.

Runflats aren't much better than a couple cans of fix-a-flat and roadside service. I have the same issue with the 18's on my Legacy though: I can't put the 17-inch spare on, as overall diameter is larger than stock and it will wear the clutches in the differential, or something like that. I think I'm going to sell the 18's and paint the stock 17's, kill a few birds with one stone.

Yeah, I'd get back to stock wheel size. Tearing up your differential with a necessary spare change is no fun at all.

Hey I just realized it's wednesday and I'm home. I haven't touched forza in ages. What's the car for tonight and what tracks should I practice? Is it still 9pm eastern?

Car is A-class, German, AWD/RWD/FWD. Can't speak to tracks, last I asked "we just play a lot of them."

Time is 8pm CST/9pm EST!

Got caught with a flat once. Had to get a flatbed tow because the fix-a-flat cans didn't work  Luckily I had roadside and it was free! I also had just received my new (to me) tires that were waiting to be mounted. Big case of luck there.

I dont know who makes the room anymore - please add/invite Arby08 thanks

Seems like M3s usually get their asses handed to them so we'll see how this goes.

Thanks guys it was a blast. My mic is still broken I think the port in the controller is bad (3rd headset, unless the dogs are getting to it.) I'll try to get it resolved by next week. Thanks again.

I am sorry for causing some of the massive wrecks. Besides the 1 car I was totally unprepared. No mic, family members coming in and out, distractions everywhere but on the track. Didn't help that I was trying to play in behind car view and had no rear view. Next time I'll set up on my 2nd xbox secluded. I just wanted to try last night last minute as I've always followed this thread and it looked very interesting and never could participate until last night.

kabob, do you use in-car all the time? there's a neat trick you can do to widen your FOV so you can at least see your rear view mirror completely. it involves setting up your xbox as a multiscreen host in the options, and then adjusting one of the angle settings there. i think you mentioned last night "i only have a right mirror and half a rear!!" or something

Great racing last night guys! It's been tons of fun having a big new group to race with! Good mix of cars (although Cayman was the popular choice), some close races, lots of passing, much fun!

Sorry for the wrecks I caused, especially the one with Famous on Ladera...that was 100% my fault. There was another one later where you were completely in my blind spot and I hit ya (mirrors on my left and rear I could see, you were on my right).

What car are we racing next week famous?

And Blowfish and Lotheron, where were you guys last night?

Good racing guys, except for Tenneh Did you guys end up kicking him?

Nope, we didn't kick him. He was new and didn't have a mic.

We had no clue who you were and you caused a few wrecks so we considered kicking you (didn't even know if you were an AAT guy as you'd never posted on here) but being the lobby creator (power abuse!) and hearing that you were new and had no mic and hecticness all around I thought we'd keep you on. I had a flashback to when I started racing with the AnandTech guys...I can't count the number of wrecks I caused...and now I'm only pseudo-terrible!

Always fun! What's your gamertag BTW? We need to add you, firebird, and whoever is oversteer to the OP.

I use it on cars that have a decent view. Some of the cars have tiny windshields which makes it tough to use in-car, others have obstructions in front of the windshield (like the Ferrari 360 CS I used last week).

Already doing the FOV trick, it helps a bit.

Hehe, no worries dude. It was my first time too and I know I took some people out

I've tried to race in-car some, I love the interior view but can't get past the limitations on the mirrors. Plus it messes up my driving line a bit.

When I first started with Forza 2, I had the camera set so you were on the nose or whatever - couldn't see the car at all. I couldn't hit a decent line if my life depended on it. Even when I had some of the aids turned on, I still sucked ass. Finally I changed the camera to the "over the hood" view and it was like night and day. Now that I had a point of reference, I could aim the car where it needed to go. Well, at least much better than before

Yeah, I always use the hood view. My friends think I'm retarded as they all use the behind the car view. I tried it but I always miss my marks in corners. It just feels weird.
