Finally got to watch the video, my thoughts.

-STILL not as pretty as the "HD" cars in GT5, but it's sharp
-Backfiring cars = win
-16 player races is LONG overdue
-Still not seeing a ton of innovation from the video (other than the Kinect stuff that I don't care about)

That being said, please tell me what GT5 brought to the table? (not a fanboy post, honest question)

I didn't say GT5 brought anything to the table other than the pretty HD cars. Not that I've played GT5 (or criticized it/praised it for anything other than said pretty cars).

imho forza 3 doesn't really need too much more added to the core driving aspect.

I'd like to see Forza 4 have a more balanced distribution of their 500 cars. It seemed like in 3 they poured their time into a few manufacturers, but barely threw a bone to the others. That, and there weren't enough "fun" car choices for Class B and below.

I'm really hoping to see a 2011 BMW 335i in Forza 4. I mean, how could they have NO 3-series Bimmers in Forza 3???

They need to separate normal cars and "R" cars again like they did in Forza 2. The "R" cars need to be locked and just represent their overall class again.

Yeah. If they want more headroom for production cars (rather than just S and U like in FM2), add a few classes or spread out the performance index numbers.

Also bring back advanced search filters from Forza 1! You used to be able to filter all cars that meet one or several criteria, including weight, production year, HP, engine type, etc. They basically cut this out completely in 2 and restored only a tiny portion of it in 3.

I don't understand allowing upgrades on R class cars anyway. Aren't they already using the best possible parts? I guess I can see removing restrictor plates but that should push them up into a higher class so they can't just wipe out stock cars in their original class.

Maybe I need to dust off and plug back in my 360 to fire up Forza III again. I bought GT5 but have only done a few license tests because racing felt like I was repeating Prologue and Forza III all over again.

You do not need to do any license test in GT5.

Here's my (maybe stupid) question about the Kinect part:

How do you brake or accelerate? If you have your hands up around an imaginary steering wheel, how do you slow down for corners or accelerate with your hands on a fake steering wheel?

The kinect racing is supposed to be super casual where you don't control the accellerator/brakes.

The hardcore use of the Kinect is only supposed to be the head tracking for looking through corners.

I think we're almost at the point in these games, like FPSs, that nothing can be added because they are so good. FM3 was good already. Add more eye candy and you'd have the perfect racer IMO. 16 racers at once is good, but honestly, I hate racing in a full room of 8 because I always invariably get taken out in the first few turns.

Personally I think FM2 > FM3. Sure, they made some improvements, but the career is a pain, multiplayer lobbies don't seem as fluid as they were, and while the Storefront is awesome it completely killed off the Auction House.

For “Forza” fans who crave the VIP treatment, a Limited Collector’s Edition will also be available. Stay tuned for more details on the exclusive content the Limited Collector’s Edition will offer.

Be one of the first to purchase “Forza Motorsport 4” and receive the “Ship Bonus” car pack
A limited quantity of “Forza Motorsport 4” games at retail will include an exclusive in-game car pack available at launch that boasts five incredible cars for fans to race, tune, paint and share. This car pack, limited to the first production run of “Forza Motorsport 4” game discs, will include:

Prepare to hit the road in a Ferrari 458 Italia, the “Forza Motorsport 4” cover car
Today Turn 10 Studios is also revealing that the cover car for the standard edition of “Forza Motorsport 4” is the Ferrari 458 Italia. The Ferrari 458 Italia is an 8-cylinder two-seater berlinetta with a mid-rear mounted engine, and represents a genuine break with the past in terms of Maranello's previous high-performance sports cars. The Turn 10 team has worked closely with Ferrari to include every intricate detail of the Ferrari 458 Italia in the game, from its sleek aerodynamic design to its exquisitely modeled 4499 cc V8 engine, offering players the most realistic driving experience off the track.

“The Ferrari 458 Italia was a perfect fit for the ‘Forza Motorsport 4’ hero car. It has the ideal blend of style, creative flair, cutting-edge technology and power that makes it just as gorgeous to look at as it is thrilling to take to the track,” said Dan Greenawalt, creative director of Turn 10 Studios. “We’ve worked closely with our partners at Ferrari to bring this amazing car to life in your living room.”

Get a head start on the competition with “Profile Import”

For those who have invested tireless hours in “Forza Motorsport 3”, Turn 10 Studios is pleased to announce a unique “Forza Motorsport 4” feature called Profile Import, which rewards fans for their time. Based on your player level and the cars in your garage in “Forza Motorsport 3”, gift cars will be automatically added to your “Forza Motorsport 4” garage and you’ll also receive bonus gifts and credits. And for those who spent hours creating intricate layers and liveries in the “Forza Motorsport 3” Livery Editor, you will be able to import those layers, so your time isn’t lost!

I LOVE that feature in games where you get rewarded for playing past games. Makes it a lot easier to jump on the new game.

Thoughts.

  • RUF as a pre-order car? Guess we know a new MFR who will be included .
  • Rewards for playing FM3? Wish they'd take that back to FM2 where I had WAY more time/digital cash invested.
  • "Pre-order early to get these cars" bonus is kind of silly. So only a few people will get the exclusive cars?
  • To compound that, you have to pre-order early to get that bonus, but we don't even know what'll be in the LE game yet so you might pre-order that and then cancel when you find out what else is available.
  • Another thing, I understand exclusive pre-order offers but if ordering from Amazon is the only way to get the WRX STi (although I doubt it'd be the only one in the game) that's cheesy. That's like a staple of the Forza series.

As much of a Forza fan as I am I'm torn about buying the game. After playing for nearly 4 years I may just be getting burned out on it, although the 16 player MP is pretty slick. Still, what's the fun of 16 man MP without Queas, OSJ, Waldo, blowfish, etc.

Pre-order bonus content <shrug>. Every publisher is doing them now. They'll be available to purchase afterwards if you really want them.

I would think the racing would be better without me on the road. Still, after taking Forza 3 off, I'll likely be back for Forza 4.

Yeah, I understand everyone doing exclusive pre-order bonuses, but on, say, Red Dead Redemption they were all cosmetic stuff. The WRX STi is one of the most popular cars in the past two games.

You'll be back for Forza 4 you say? Hrm...I dunno, I fear you may get it and discover it's a PAL copy, then sell it to GS for a 360S!

Heh

I'm hoping I can stay on MS's good side and get a review copy this time around.

Yah... I'm scooby fan so I'm tempted by the Amazon pre-order. Just hate waiting for stuff in the mail though. I wanna pick it up and play right away.

Well, with Release Day Delivery it's usually in my mailbox by 1 PM or so, and since I work...well...you know. Although I couldn't handle waiting till that time for Black Ops, I actually went and bought it at WalMart to spare myself a few extra hours. Wow I'm sad...

lol... my buddy did the same thing for BLOP..almost. He had to go out and buy a copy since it didn't come in by 1:00pm on release day. I did the mid-night pick up deal and played all night. A lil mp, but mostly sp.

I still remember dominating with the m16 when the game came out as everyone was running around with the mp5.
