How is a game developed for a console with 8 crappy 1.75ghz cores limited by single core performance on PC? Sounds super lazy
When locked to 30fps like consoles, CPU load spreads very evenly on 4 cores. When framerate is unlocked it hammers one of the cores. Sounds like a major engine limitation. If it's fixed before Forza Motorsport 7 60fps releases - I will be surprised

Ah that would explain the occasional hitches I see with Freesync and G-Sync on FH3. Adaptive sync works wonders, but will still stutter when CPU is stressed at 100%. In those cases I use a frame limiter to keep cpu below 100% and FSync\Gsync shines again.

I'm starting to learn this severe limitation for adaptive sync technology. WoW gives me the micro-stutter effect even when well within my G-Sync range (30-100hz) which drives me bonkers.

Really sucks to read that a MSFT studio can't even get over CPU bottlenecks with DX12. Gears 4 is out this week, and hopefully it actually works out of the box!

It sounds the CPU load distribution is entirely intentional, not a bug. They prioritized giving PC players an identical experience to the Xbone. Anything beyond that is "out of scope".

They did more than just that. They drove my nephews to play the game on their dusty Xbone. Haha.

I expect the Tweet "over 65 trillion hours on FH3 just this weekend! Only on Xbox1*" sometime Monday morning.

If they can't fix it then GO4 will be like this.

Gears UE was horrendous. Thankfully it got fixed, but still...I'm starting to feel like the "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me."

And with it announcing couch Co-OP on PC. I NEED THIS GAME!!! (to not perform like ass)

That looks like my WoW CPU charts! DX11 confirmed.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the encryption some other redditor's found that is happening on the fly? Perhaps the core is bogged down by that process which is leading to the bottleneck.

Oh my god those guys are awesome. So smart to figure that out. It explains it. Every GPU acts as if its running out of Vram and we get stuttering and hitching. The stupid game is using system ram for graphics! Maybe it has something to do with shared memory on the consoles? God I hope they fix this crap. The game would be so nice if it ran right. I won't hold my breath for that though.

I'ts nothing new,they put out the APEX beta to get fedback on how it runs on PC,they got a lot of threads discussing this exact problem (several threads hogging core 0) ... and did nothing,and I doubt they'll ever do.
I mean the game has several threads,it could run each thread on it's own core,or at least spread them until the CPU runs out of cores,this is complete insanity.

Yet when you stack trace APEX with process hacker you find there DX11 and DX12 functions. Game looks like a hybrid DX11/12? Other DX12 games i monitored dont call DX11 functions like APEX does. I just wondering if it makes things worse..

Well, I received a "Your order is delayed" email.

About 10 minutes later, I got an email with an actual key code, so it looks like i'm good to go.

The email with the key code says $59.99, but my initial receipt email and my bank both say $19.99.

I'm having a hell of a time updating to Win 10 Anniversary Edition, which is required to download this game...

Try downloading Windows 10 Anniversary edition directly from Microsoft using the media creation tool, put it on a USB pen drive or a DVD, then install it from there. It will only install the update if you do it that way..

The worst part is the FPS in this title is not indicative of smoothness. Once again the European reviewers continue to show professionalism as most US-based review sites now ignore frame times testing (I wonder why...). You can see that despite high fps on NV cards, the stuttering due to frame time spikes on Maxwell and Pascal cards is awful in this game:

To achieve somewhat consistent frame times on a 970, 30 fps locked has to be selected.

Sure, this game looks pretty, but it's yet another unoptimized console port. For crying out loud, the game runs at PC-equivalent high settings at 1080p 30 fps with 4XMSAA on the underpowered Xbox One with Jaguar and HD7790 spec, but you cannot achieve this with 4XMSAA on GTX970/R9 390 on an i7 5820K (Per Digital Foundry).

4K FXAA

High FPS with terrible frame times does not produce smooth gameplay.










I would guess that if Microsoft's exclusives were always first developed on PCs and then ported back to Xbox One, they would not only look better but be better optimized for varying PC specs. Quantum Break, Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War Ultimate is 0/3 so far. We'll see if Gears of War 4 is any different.

It's almost laughable and insulting to PC gamers on how well Forza Horizon 3 runs on Jaguar + HD7790 spec and how much PC hardware is required to significantly exceed the performance and IQ of a $200 console. It's as if MS is purposely trying to make their console look like a bargain. Also, as Digital Foundry and others have shown, the performance delta between GTX1060/RX 480 and GTX970/R9 390/X simply makes no sense -- clearly a sign that the port is poorly optimized.

When a Titan X runs the game better at 4K than a GTX1060 runs it at 1080p, well....

I'm hoping AMD puts out an updated driver for my R9 390.

I have my i5 4590 + R9 390 running at 2560x1440 with High settings, no MSAA and the 30fps option and I can't maintain a solid 30.

Hey bogg, I seem to recall you have an ultrawide correct (PG348Q?). I've had this, I'm not sure what to call it, bitstream strip on the right side of panel since I first started playing. I've just been sort of mentally blocking it out, but I was wondering if you also have this issue or know of fix? It's more distracting during races as the bar becomes black with multicolor bits.


Also find it funny how many people come here to post how broken and awful this title is despite having never played it. Despite its flaws, the game is spectacular...

Thats annoying looking, does it change as you race or is it static? Static might be ok but having it change would drive me crazy.

I'm bummed the target deal canceled, not a huge racing fan but was a solid deal for a game that looks good.

Yes, it constantly streams and fills, sometimes less noticeable. I'm thinking its an issue specifically relegated to 21:9 or 3440x1440 setups maybe? Google isn't shedding much light. My friend plays 16:9 and he has no issues playing on High settings with his GTX 1060.

As far as the game goes, don't think I have paid the full $60 for a game since switching back from PS4 to a fresh build last summer. But this game is honestly worth it. Sure you have to deal with Windows store and the BS DRM but the game is genuinely fun. Sucks that sites like cdkeys can't procure some cheap keys.

But yeah, the game is FUN, just needs a bit of buffing out. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
