• 1440p: 78 / 63
• 3440x1440: 68 / 59
• 4k: 60 / 51

1060 (372.90):

• 1080p: 65 / 55
• 1440p: 53 / 42 (noticed hitching)

480 (16.9.2):

• 1080p: 67 / 55
• 1440p: 54 / 53

not just a good showing. Guessing the 480 was not overclocked and the 1060 was running near 2Ghz.

I think he said at reference speeds. So not sure if its a reference (thus probably not hitting full clocks) card or custom card @ reference speeds.

As expected, DF has 4K60 footage from a Titan XP. Apparently he had to OC the VRAM and disable MSAA to get a 60fps lock.

GTX 980 Ti miles ahead of Fury / Fury X on this DX 12 title. Latter is possibly VRAM limited, especially at 4K:

Forza Motorsport 6: Apex runs on its own engine ForzaTech, which takes full advantage of DirectX 12. The engine was designed for use by Turn 10 Studios in Forza games of the series.Playground Games have taken it as a basis and made some improvements, adapting the game to the world and open to modern hardware.

The recommended volume for the use of video resolution of 1920x1080 would be 6144 VRAM mb to allow 2560h1440 - 6144 MB video memory and to allow 3840h2160 about 6144 MB of video memory.

weird result. Maybe its the last sequence in their benchmark scene or something.

Performance could definitely be better though.

Gamegpu has very odd ball results. You can't say the Fury is limited @ 1080p while the 970 / 980 isn't.

Interesting results from Benchmark.pl @ 3 days ago. GTX 980 Ti's minimum FPS advantage over Fury X grew as they increased the resolution. GTX 1060 leads RX 480 by 15-25% (1080p Ultra). I made a pic so it's easier to update the OP:

hopefully he used another set of 2x4GB for the 8GB tests, if not that's also dual vs single channel (which is still kind of interesting to see) and not much of a 8vs16GB

the other test, the problem is that he tested ultra with 4xmsaa, which the 1060 3GB seems unable to handle well because of vram, but other than that he seems to use "dynamic" setting? isn't it the setting the scales the resolution dynamically? so how can you compare 2 different cards without knowing exactly what settings is using for each?

Make sure you disable MSAA, even a Titan XP will stutter @ 1080p with 4xMSAA while running 4k turned off w/o issue.

Also need a very beefy CPU and fast memory

Capping @ 30fps with higher settings seems to provide much better experience than hitting 40-50s for older cards

Digital Foundry's verdict is that the RX 480 is tied with the GTX 1060 on ultra settings without MSAA aside from potential asset streaming issues ...

Forza Horizon 3 is arguably a big step backwards compared to Forza Motorsport 6: Apex in terms of performance on AMD GPUs. Polaris microarchitecture got very lucky when AMD decided to increase geometry throughput at a whim ...

I'd say Forza Horizon 3 presents a good use case where DX12 doesn't help AMD much and that's in cases with extremely geometry limited scenarios where Nvidia has an advantage regardless ...

OoO raster (this needs to be exposed in DX12 soon), GPU compute cluster culling, async compute, triangle ordering, and these other sorts of optimizations are a god send for AMD GPUs when they are known to struggle a lot with geometry processing ...

Yep no idea why they forced it to run at low clocks but it obviously hampered its fps. You can see from the OP that they run fine and faster than the 1060 normally.

I hope AMD will bring a new driver soon for Hawaii/Fiji and not make an NVIDIA stunt with older GPUs.
