Seems like a lot of supposition with no proof if you ask me. AES decryption to my knowledge is very fast on modern CPUs, so I doubt that's the problem if it even exists. It's most likely due to an inefficient streaming algorithm more than anything.. Most of the time, problems like these are either due to drivers or the engine itself.

The best engines use task based parallelism which will break up tasks across the entire CPU, including streaming. Mediocre or average engines will use a single thread for streaming though, and if you have a lot of data to stream (hello open world racing game), then it can cause performance issues. Does anyone even know what engine the Forza series uses?

ComputerBase tested at 1080p High with MSAA 2x, which already disproves your claim.

Also:

Yes, of course, FPS dropping drom 80 to 48 on a 1060, 75 to 43 on a 470, 103 to 42 on a Fury X, GTX1080 not holding 60 FPS locked at 1080p with only 2xMSAA are ALL perfectly normal signs of great late 2016 PC port/optimization. No SLI/CF to boot. Awesome!

MetaCritic PC reviews are coming out highlighting major stuttering issues with this title at 1080p, even on way overpowered hardware:

"I have a 1080 msi gaming x, 16 go ram, i7 3770k @ 4.2 and the game sutter a lot, the framerate in ultra is between 35/60 with msaa 4. If i change msa to 2 i have the same result... "

Yes, of course, Titan XP running better at 4K than 1060 runs at 1080p is also perfectly normal behaviour. ~ 2X faster GPU runs the game better with 4X the pixels. That's next generation PC optimization!

"After some testing, the site managed to get the game running at locked 60fps on 4K using a Titan X and an overclocked i7 6700K. Dropping the resolution to 1080p, using the same settings but with a GTX 1060, results in worse results. The game appears to run better at 4K than it does at 1080p, bearing in mind each GPU’s capabilities.

When swapping the Titan X [Pascal] back into the setup, and keeping the resolution to 1080p with added 4x MSAA, the performance misses the 60fps lock constantly."

https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.vg2...ing-is-a-challenge-for-most-systems-report/am

It's perfectly normal to need a 6700K overclocked system with a GTX970 running 60 FPS but at quality presets BELOW Xbox One S's - you know that console with a garbage Jaguar and HD7790 GPU spec:

"Outside of dropping AA altogether, Digital Foundry also lowered a couple of settings such as shadow quality, reflections, windshield reflections, and others. It’s a bit of a downgrade from the Xbox One preset"
https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.vg2...g-is-a-challenge-for-most-systems-report/amp/

I guess MS is desperately trying to create value in their consoles since there is no way a PC with an HD7790 and AMD FX 4300 will run the game at 1080p locked 30 fps.

Are you seriously ignoring with a straight face that something is clearly wrong when R9 290X moves from 24 FPS on VHQ to 69 FPS HQ?! Are you seriously suggesting Computerbase's testing showing RX480 with 29 lost frame vs. R9 390 with 598 (!) lost frames is normal?

After already seeing every single Windows store DX12 title deliver shoddy launch performance that requires patches and various NV/AMD drivers to fix, it makes sense to wait for more optimizations from the developer and AMD/NV before drawing final conclusions about 4GB VRAM or geometry bottlenecks.

They use the same engine as in apex, which is an in house one as far as I know.
This also makes me believe that FH3 stutters because of the same completely idiotic reasons that apex stutters.
1. Threads are not spread over all available cores, let alone correctly balanced over all cores.
2. Any thread that needs any work done dynamically changes to a higher priority which drives task manager crazy,TM tries to finish off the higher priority tasks before dedicating CPU resources to the rest of the threads, since game threads need input from the rest of the threads to finish their jobs and go on the lower priority on the rest of the threads triggers a huge slow down.

Still downloading. Regarding bad performance, I'm convinced that if there was a DX11 option, the game would look identical and get twice the framerate.

I remember reading about how they went to ridiculous lengths to optimize streaming in the original forza horizon. I wonder if they had to scrap that system with the move to the xb1.

I've read that any stuttering on Nvidia cards can be solved by going into the driver properties and enabling "Prefer Maximum Performance".

Would suck if its DRM that's causing the problems. Some people report having good perf to start, then hitting up stuttering as they progressed. Could be performance results are related to which card was tested first and which second. Would have to re download the game completely to be almost certain that is no issue.

I just tried the game. It auto set to ultra with 4xAA and I turned off that auto quality adjust setting. I don't know what people are complaining about honestly. The game looks incredible and runs smooth as hell. FPS falls below 60, but the game feels smooth and great even when it does. No skips or hitches or anything like that. I like it a lot actually. Also...that license plate though...

Precisely. The titles are essentially beta at release, and we test them and provide the feedback for polishing the games over the next 4-6 months +.

Maybe with a lot of games, but IMO, not this one. There is seriously nothing wrong with the game. Could it have higher FPS? Yeah it could, but the game runs smooth in my experience and works perfect.

(Most people don't have 12 threads to play with)

I doubt it has anything to do with 12 threads. My CPU is old and slow compared to the 6700K and people with that CPU are complaining about odd performance issues. I think the only issue is that people with expensive gear expect the game to get wrecked at over 60fps no matter what. A TitanXP runs it great at 4K maxed out, so there's that as well which is great.
No but seriously, what is the problem with the game? Not enough FPS?

Also, that license plate. My name fits perfect. That's like fate or something. Badassery at work there.

It sounds like performance is all over the place for different people. Some people like you are coming up golden, and others are having significant problems. My guess is that there is something that causing the problems that will be worked out relatively soon with either a driver update or a patch and the performance issues will go away.

I notice some stutter but its not gamebreaking. Would definitely prefer it not be there.

I agree game runs great (4790k, RX 480, 1440p 70hz FS). Running Mix of high and Ultra settings with 4xAA @ 1440p and rarely dip below 60fps and looks smooth. Smooth FPS is probably there without Freesync as looks like the game has triple buffer or triple buffer like smoothing algorithm. Played a few hours and enjoying both the gameplay and graphics.

OK so I finally entered the city area and FPS tanks hard, barely staying above 30FPS at times. What it doesn't do is skip and hitch at least. So I'll have to adjust some settings to get more FPS in those areas if I feel the need. For some reason I'm just enjoying the game and not analyzing the crap out of it like I usually do. I'm not overly bothered by it and pretty surprised at how fun the game is. Hopefully some optimizations come though. SLI would be fantastic but that's not happening, like ever.

This is first game for a very long time, that will force me to install Windows on my primary computer. Next one most likely will be Gears of War 4.

Apart from Overwatch, FH3 is the best game of the year, IMO.

For some reason they got the game right. It reminds me a little of Burnout Paradise, which I loved dearly. I might actually play this game, which is pretty shocking actually. Its got FPS issues in certain parts of the map, but the game is just fun. Fun game!

For me, it reminds of the original Test Drive: Unlimited. I have been playing this game through nights!

Also I have had played through original Forza Horizon, so I know what to expect from the game.
