I really want to get this game, but damn... These performance issues are keeping me from pulling the trigger. I keep checking this and other threads in hopes of reading about a new patch that fixes the issue, but nothing so far.
Never base your decisions on people complaining on forums, it's the vocal minority most of the time, this is the best open world cars game to ever land on the pc, I'm playing it without any issues, sure the performance could be better but hopefully they can get that sorted out.

Please, go to the forza reddit and windows store forums and literally look at the thousands of complaints about the games performance, crashing, and update problems. My friend was unable to play for a week because the store would not allow him to update.

Please realize that you are in the minority having absoulely no problems with the title. Your claims are annecdotal and while so are ours, at least theres thousands of other players out there sharing our issues and complaints.

Also, not a single poster here has said they've let these issues hinder their liking of the game. Its still great but theres no need pretend like our claims are fabricated or over blown. We're pretty reasonable compared to some posters who come to these threads only to bash game devs along with jabs aimed at their rival GPU camps. Many come to spew but many also don't play or buy the games they bash.

I'm not basing it on random people's opinion. I'm basing it on the opinions and experiences of the AT community which I have been a part of for years with members whom opinions I trust and respect

While the game has low FPS in surfers paradise and suffers from some stuttering, other than that the game has actually ran fine for me. By fine I mean good FPS in most areas besides surfers and a couple forest areas. I haven't had a single crash and no issues with updating. I have to admit I am kind of scratching my head over all the complaints about crashing and menu lag and all this stuff. The menus are perfectly responsive for me. Maybe there is a special menu I haven't seen yet. I don't know.
I do believe that a lot of the people complaining about the game have simply hopped on the bash wagon and like to join in with their mob mentality and bash the game to death just for fun. That's what PC gamers tend to do quite a lot mostly for the drama of it all. The devs supposedly have another performance patch coming "soon".
Also, as far as being the best open world racer to ever hit PC, I think Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box was the most racing fun I've ever had in my life. Free roaming online and doing takedowns and all the crazy barrel rolls and tricks you could do was so much dam fun it was INSANE. The music was mostly cheesy with a great beat and was just awesome. That game won't be topped for me. I highly doubt it.

Burnout Paradise was a more fun game for sure. But this game is pretty good for a modern take on open world racing. Certainly a million times better than The Crew or something.

Graphically Dirt Rally tears this apart.

I did have troubles downloading this and some to get it to start but once I did it's been running fine.

If only I could say the same of Gears of War which has downloaded 73GB to my machine and wants to download another 76GB all of a sudden.

I don't know if its related, but when updating Forza Horizon 3, Microsoft had a note to say you want to be on the latest version of Windows 10 updates; if you weren't, they said it'd re-download the whole game.

tl;dr = ensure you have latest Win 10 patches

Thanks I wish this were the issue. I keep my system up to date and currently it is. I check it every day I turn it on. This could help some people though. I'm really hoping it doesn't have to start from scratch. All that data is still on my SSD.

Game definitely runs better on AMD than Nvidia. I have a RX 480 8GB system (4790k@4.7) and TitanXP (5930k@4.4). On the 480, never see a core at 100% (maybe 80%) and getting around 80FPS with dips to 55 at 1440p, but pretty smooth. TitanXP system with same settings and also 1440p, I see same FPS but one core at 100% and looks choppy every few seconds. Both systems run Forza Apex pretty well with TitanXP having less hitches.

I can say I get hitches with a TXP at 4K. Reducing settings doesn't help much. But the hitches seem to happen only when other cars enter the scene.

But I run with a 60fps limiter. Someone above posted how turning off the limiter makes this game basically run on one core.

Somehow I think when running on Nvidia it seems to peg a single core and makes you CPU limited.

However my frame rate never goes below 57fps but when it happens it's very noticeable. I'm still wondering if this can be patched out. If Apex worked okay then I don't see why this can't.

Ok so just now it needed to restart my machine to install updates. It looks like it started over. So what's the point of preloading?

"Forza Horizon 3, the new entry of the series developed by Playground Games, will be getting a new update later today on both PC and Xbox One, introducing a variety of tweaks and improvements. Among the most important improvements coming with the new Forza Horizon 3 update are performance improvements for four and eight core setups, stability fixes and more.

· Players running four-core setups on Windows 10 should see CPU improvements
· Improved thread layout changes for eight-core setups on Windows 10, resulting in improved performance"

It sounds great. I hope I don't get screwed for having 6/12 cores. I can't wait to try this out tonight. I am actually SHOCKED that they addressed our concerns regarding performance with the CPU issues. I fully expected them to ignore the CPU issues and pretend like we are all just crazy. Very odd and strange to see them actually acknowledge the specific issues raised by the community, and apparently spend time fixing them. Can't wait to see how it goes.

Nothing changed. Patch is a fail. No performance change at all. Screw these losers.

No change here either, I still dip into the 40s on an i7 6700k@4.5 and 980ti. Fortunately, I play experience is tolerable as it stands.

The drops occur mostly in the city area or when there are a lot of other cars on screen. Sometimes during the beginning of a race as I'm maneuvering around cars.

4 MSAA, 1440p everything else maxed.

Looks like you need to OC that slow 6700K some more. Not fast enough to get good FPS in Forza. They should have been honest and listed a 6ghz 7700k as minimum for 60fps gameplay.

Game is actually worse after 30-45 minutes of playing than at any point before the patch. Stutter fest.

Patch didn't fix anything, still have to lock 60fps and turn frame smoothing on + core 0 disabled to fix stuttering..

4 MSAA

Try removing MSAA and maybe using DSR/VSR or something to get higher resolution like 4k.

Digital Foundry found in their testing that they could run 4K better than 1080p with 4x MSAA.
