They sell turtle food and supplies at the pet store.
make it so that there is land and a small pond in the tank. Or you can just fill it up enough for him to swim and put a big rock for him to chill on.
Change the water regularly(use the same water treatment stuff you use for fish to remove chlorine and such) .
Have fun

Turtles are pretty easy to take care of.

I found one that was run over on it's back with it's shell cracked an blood coming out of it last weekend

I moved it out of the road and flipped it over and set it in some grass. The next time I went by that spot it was gone. It probably died but I wonder...

Poor little fella.

Awww. I like turtles too. They are cool man. Have done numerous turtle rescues. My ex came home with one, we released it the next day. He was a BIG painted turtle. We kept him in the bathtub that night. When everyone was fast asleep, we awoke to this.......*THUD*........*THUD* WHAT IS THAT???? Walked into the bathroom, the turtle was trying like hell to get out of the bathtub! His shell was hitting the side of bathtub. We set him on the floor, so he would stop making so much noise. He hid behind the toilet. Who would of thought a turtle could be so noisy? We let him go the next day in a wooded nice area, that had a running creek.

We find turtles all the time (we live on a lake). Last weekend we caught a baby who was barely bigger than a quarter. We kept him for a few hours then released him back into the lake.

Turtles can be a bit finicky. We had two that died last year that we had bought from the pet store, and I think we took pretty good care of them. But yeah, you can get turtle food at the pet store. But I think you should release him. I've known several people who would feed turtles that came up to their house, and they would continue coming back every day. Maybe yours will too .

You might wanna wikipedia or do some other search for exactly what kind of turtle you have. I would think most turtles eat small slimy things and vegetables.

Most importantly wash your hands. Your turtle carries Salmonella bacteria on it's skin and injesting it will make you sick.

Turtles are hard to take care of. I strongly suggest releasing it into the wild, because giving it proper care sucks ass.

I agree to let it go - you've just taken it out of an environment where it can roam free as it wishes, into a little container with semi clear walls.

agreed, I own 2 baby turtles (about 1.5 years old now) and they are a LOT to handle. You need a lot of expensive equipment, a lot of room, and must be feed a strict diet.

Since you found a wild turtle, just release it.

Well it depends on the kind of turtle he found. Red ear sliders which seem to be very popular are actually very hard to raise correctly. You need a 90 gallon tank, etc.

But some turtles like musk turtles are very easy to raise.

Find out what turtle you have. But I suggest releasing it anyway to a safe place.

Yes, release it. But do take some pics.
Some turtle pics of what I've come across:

Adult box turtle

Baby box turtle

I think both were found (on different days) while I was mowing. The baby was darn lucky it wasn't run over.
The adult was very cautious and took several minutes before coming out of its shell, but once it did, it didn't seem overly concerned with being handled. The baby didn't seem to be fazed by anything.
Both were released after their photo sessions.

I also encountered a snapping turtle once. He was trying to cross the road at a pond near my house. Note: turtles aren't always slow. Snappers can turn around pretty damn fast, and this guy was pissed off. He had his mouth wide open and came right for me. I was cautious about him though, and he never got so much as a nip of me. He was eventually persuaded to go off the road and toward the pond.

Turtles stink pretty bad as well.

Let it go... preferably away from a highway.

Name him Mr. Turtle and buy a cactus and name him Mr. Prickly.

Actually, just let him go. If you want a turtle as a pet go buy one at the pet store.
