found lost dog, what are you suppose to do?

i was working in my garage and this dog came up to me. it has no tags and it is kinda dirty. what the heck am i suppose to do. i live in central coast ca.

advice please

Clean it up, give it dinner, and if you like it, keep it. If not, turn it in to animal control tomorrow. They'll take care of killing it if nobody else wants it.

I found a dog on the beach last summer. Took it home, fed it dinner, let it sleep on one of my dog's beds. Took it to Animal Control the next day and she was adopted after a five day waiting period(for the owners to show-up but didn't).

OP, if you have the space, maybe you should clean it up, give it some food, then put an ad in your local newspaper or craigslist about the found dog.
