Youch! That X-ray brings back painful memories. I had that same disc herniate twice, the first time I had a discectomy and the second time ended with a double fusion. Hopefully the OP has found some relief since he last posted in this thread.

I hurt my back last week.

It healed in 5 days...but I'm in my 20's.

I feel sorry for you

I honestly feel like back problems are from runaway positive feedback inflammation. The more you pinch the disk the more inflamed the more it gets pinched. I've gotten over back pain twice thus far in my life. The rules are:

Round the clock NSAID for a couple days

"It hurts when I move like 'this' see?" --Then don't do that, got it!?

The ultimate goal is to get the inflammation down. I don't know many people IRL that have had success with surgery. Try the shot first if your doc is willing?

I have 2 herniated disc. It sucked for about 3 months. Walking definitely helps though. I think inflammation is a necessary part of the healing process and you should not prevent it using NSAID unless it's keeping you from sleeping. I went the home physical therapy route. Rather not get surgery for this type of thing. I'm only 26!

Inflammation is never good.

Some disc injuries require surgery, some you can get by without.

Usually prior to surgery, there is a multiple step path where NSAIDS, Steroids, PT and injections are possibly tried. If relief is not happening within 6 weeks, usually surgery is the only option.

There are micro-surgeries for many of these injuries now that really cut down on the recovery time. Basically they go in and cut the bulging part out a bit to free up room so the nerve(s) are not compressed.

I am not a doctor though, with this being in the coccyx they may just remove the disc and fuse the two bones together.

There's no "think" about it. You would know.

Multiple probably yes, a coworker had a bit of pain just once in a while; one day he finally went to a chiropractor or massage place and they told him he had an issue. He had a bad disc and it wasn't that bad. He had to go on anti-inflammatory treatments and limit activities, but it healed on it's own or at least became not an issue.
