pics?
pics of GF?

Doubt exists that you can be cuter than the kittens.

LOL.. As much as I do love her, she is not cuter than the kittens. They are full of squee!

She is full of.. "go nag someone else!"

I'm so sleeping on the couch tonight!!!!

We just adopted or kitten at the animal shelter a couple of months ago. Kittens move very fast, the younger, the better.

Best of Luck, I know that you'll find a loving home for those beautiful kitties.

It shouldn't be difficult to find a no kill shelter or cat rescue in your town if you don't want to deal with them yourself.

-KeithP

You would think that, but the last time we rescued 4 kittens from under my shed we couldn't find a shelter that would take them. Well would take them for free. Most would accept them with a donation.

The only shelters that would take them were kill shelters.

After that experience, I've spent the last year trying to capture and spay all the cats that enter my yard.

This is why I had my rant thread about people not getting their animals fixed...

If I were you I'd take them to a shelter/SPCA/cat rescue. The odds for stray animals brought there aren't great, but for healthy, friendly kittens the chances are much better than average. Please don't just give them away to strangers on Craigslist.

Not sure how cold it has to get for the cold to bother them either. We have quite a few cats that stay outside all winter - and it drops to 20 below zero here. The cats make it through the winter just fine. They're not exposed though - they have plenty of places to go and curl up to keep warm - in the hay in the barn, or wherever they go.

At first, I was going to say "put them back so their mother can take care of them" - but after looking at the pictures, you can see they're at least 6 weeks of age, if not older. Since they're outdoors at that age, it's likely that whoever (if) owns the mother, they're probably not aware of the kittens & the kittens would likely have become feral.

Whenever I put an ad on Craigslist for kittens, they go pretty quickly. As far as heat - one of our cats had a litter of 6. When I put up a ladder into the loft of the barn, she moved her litter into the hay loft. It easily hits 120 degrees up there on hot days. She kept them hidden in the dark between two loose bales at the bottom of the pile. They're very lucky that I had the hay elevator turned off the other night while I was stacking more bales, else I wouldn't have heard the muffled meow as I shoved the bales tight while adding another row. (They're also lucky that I didn't kill one when shoving the bales tight.) I would have found little dried up mummified kittens around February had one of the six not made a noise. Anyone want a kitten? They're cute & friendly. Now I take the ladder down when not in use - it was sheer luck that I noticed the kittens while putting hay up - they'd have died if I didn't notice them.

Thank you all for the knowledge and information about shelters/humane society..etc! I am going to be making a few calls here in just a minute, and I am going to find out the kill policy of animals at the H.S, and if I don't like it I won't give them up.

Granted these are some ADORABLE kittens, and I don't think they should have a problem going to some loving families, you just never know now a days what will happen. I'll try to keep this updated!!

Should I put them back where my girlfriend found them, in hopes that momma cat will be around to take care of them?

Too late - as soon as you picked them up, the momma cat will no longer take care of them. If you picked up just one kitten out of the litter and put it back, she'd move the rest of the kittens and leave that one behind.

I was worried about that too. I've decided to try and help find them good homes by donating them. I just called a place here in town, and I am waiting for a call back

no, you are wrong. We handle all of our kittens from an early age and the mommas do not abandon them.

Indeed! Damn me for living in the middle of nowhere! LOL. I feel the best course of action would be to get these kittens spayed/neutered and put up for adoption. I just wish I had the money to get that done. I would gladly do all that myself, but our budget is super-thin as it is

100% not true. When we had 4 ferrel kittens in our back yard we captured them. The first one I caught escaped the trap when I reached in to take it out. I picked her up and she bit me and ran back under the shed.

The mother cat stayed put (easy access to food) and didn't move her kittens. 2 weeks later we had caught the whole group and got momma spayed and the kittens we slowly domesticated and got them a good home.

I think the touching thing is a myth setup just to keep kids from bringing home/messing with animals.

I sure hope so Source. I'd really hate for things like that to happen. I wonder if the whole "touching" bit is true to birds? I've heard a lot of people say that if you try to handle a baby bird, the mother will abandon it (just like this kitten dilemma).

The mother cat will continue to hang around for at least several days, even if she's ferrel and you touched them. However, given the kittens were so friendly the odds are she is as well, and it's a bit odd she's also not hanging around.

Which tells me they are drop offs. I volunteer for several local shelters and we know kittens.

They also look at least 6weeks old and healthy, which means they should be taking solid food but might not be hungry yet. Give them a day or two away from mom and trust me, they'll attack moist food.

You might be surprised how reluctant local shelters are to take kittens, although most will offer to euthanize them for you. Unless their cat population is low, which is not likely given the current economy....but it's worth a try.

Local pet stores are sometimes worth stopping into and askin. If the kittens are clean they'll often put you on a waiting list.

Good info! Thank you! I'll be damned if I send these kittens off to be euthanized. I'd take out a small $500 loan and have them cleaned up, spayed/neutered and adopted out before I send them off to their death. I am hoping it won't come down to that, as I couldn't afford it, but I am still waiting on a phone call back from a place I called about half an hour ago.

Craigslist ad, make sure they know the kittens need their shots & to be spayed/neutered. Why should YOU bother with extra expenses because someone may have dropped the kittens off at your house?

Craigslist is about the worst way to get rid of free animals. Kittens end up snakeroot, dog bait or just tortured to often.

I really doubt a neighbor decided to plant these in the OPs yard.

The are organizations that will take them free if one cannot afford otherwise.

You do it because it's the right thing to do, obviously if you can afford too.

Must be a Florida thing. I haven't heard of people using Craigslist to get kittens for any reason other than to take care of them as pets. I've met every person we've given a kitten to & I can say without a doubt that none of them planned on using them for dog bait, feeding snakes, or torturing them.

No it's a national thing, your simple experience <> even an average one.

There is alot of reasons most are against any pet being given away.

Humane society usually can move kittens, other rescues as well. Humane societies don't charge anything to take a pet in. Others usually charge $25-30 as to not encourage irresponsible pet owners from dumping animal babies every few months.
