Four Loko going to be banned?

You have to realize, people get alcohol poisoning ALLLLL the time. It's not reported on because it happens ALL the time. I'd venture to say to that a very very small percentage of those who got alcohol poisoning did so because of the effect of caffeine on top of the (obviously very excessive) amount of alcohol they drank.

These cases made it to national media because FL is the cool new thing to hate on. People have been drinking for hundreds of years and people have been dying from it for the same amount of time. Sure, people shouldn't drink so much and mix it with caffeine, but the issue here is if they had the choice, they could.

To be honest, I wouldn't be all that upset if they took FL off the shelves. I like it, but I like craft brews a lot fucking more. I find issue with people being so willing to swiftly implement a government ban because the media tells them there's a problem when simple logic and a little free and conscious thought would show them that it's simply not the case.

depends on if they raise the price after changing the taxing laws on four loko. the local bar here sells them for $4.50 each. it'll probably be worth a bit more though after they remove the caffeine. it's like buying vintage!

I can tell you the exact reason I got alcohol poisoning. I was at a bar, it was thirsty Thursday and the bar tender was making me monster sized screw drivers with as much vodka in them as I wanted. So by the 3rd screw driver I already had him opening a new bottle of russian standard. not only that i was paying THREE DOLLARS A DRINK. WTF?!? I got alcohol poisoning at a BAR for less than 30 dollars. Pretty awesome imo.

Because the media decided not to demonize Red Bull and Vodka? Or do you have some statistic that will clearly show that WAY fewer college students pass out on Red Bull and Vodka than on Four Loko?

Red Bull and vodka is not something you can buy already mixed together in a can.

Now mixing Red Bull and vodka is equally stupid but it's not packaged together so you can't really compare that to Four Loko.

But they're generally sold at the same place and since most of us have taken basic math to figure out 1+1 = 2 they would just move from Four Loko to that.

It's funny many of the nanny-state people that were all for the TSA/Airline crap are now realizing that they are not as "important" as they thought they'd be when approaching a screening line.

The new thing on blocking cell phones from use during driving via installed devices is equally insane. People are just going to draft texts while cruising and let them send once they get out of the car.

Until parents start raising kids that follow the laws, we will have this disregard for fellow citizens.

bfdd, here's the thing.

They COULD have figured it out, but didn't.

They did not want to bother doing it themselves.

We have drunks that are so lazy they are not even willing to "make" a drink. They want a can they can throw in the fridge or ice bucket, pop it and down it. No work involved.

Does it make sense? Not really, but that is what people do. You can show people how to make fireworks from Sulfur Charcoal and Bird Dung (thank you Transformers!!) but few do it. They woudl rather just go get it already in a nice package ready to go.

I tried to buy another case on friday and the store owner came out and said he would only sell me 2. I was like well I'll buy the case for full price don't give me a case discount and he said it was a moral issue not a monetary issue. I said look pal I'm older and responsible than these little college kids. I'm not buying the case to drink by myself tonight. I'm buying it to store it for gradual consumption. After some more haggling I got him to sell me the whole case.

Yeh, I don't know if it was this thread or the FDA one...but any sense of "freedom" people have with alchol is an illusion. Federal/State/City laws limit what you can buy, where you can buy, and when you can buy it. They limit where you can drink it, and how much you can drink before doing certain activities.

The only "freedom" you have concerning alcohol is what those government bodies deem you worthy of having. Taking away a very niche drink is hardly something above and beyond the already existing levels of control that are in place.

Anyone else get loko this weekend?

I tried one over the weekend. I can see how (stupid) people get messed up but it's no different than mixing your own high alcohol content drinks (hunch punch comes to mind). When the drink is fruity and doesn't "burn", immature drinkers will drink it too fast. My wife hated it so what's left of the two cases will probably be mine to try to finish over the coming months.
