Four years ago today

I just realized that 4 years ago today was the first day on the job for my wife and I after getting out of the military. We both got hired on the same contract.

It's amazing how far we've come in 4 years. We had a little money saved, I had no retirement accounts, I was paying for two cars and I thought I'd never be able to afford NOT to rent. Now we have 401k's, IRA's, lot's of savings, a home, three paid-off cars (two of them 2006 models) and my wife is in the process of getting her first 6-digit job.

How about some of your stories about then and now and where you think you'll be in four years...

No, we're both still government contractors for the time being.

Congrats!!! I have less than a year to go before I seperate..and sometimes I wonder what my chances are outside of the military.

What branch were you in?
how long did you serve in the military?
did you find a similiar job of what you were doing in the military in the civilian world?

We were both E-5's in the Army and our MOS was 31P (25P now, I do believe). My wife was in for 5 years and I extended my stay to just over 5.5 so we could get out at the same time. We both did telecom work in the Army but our first contractor jobs were as systems administrators - my wife as a Unix admin, and I did Windows.

What field are you in?

We were both E-5's in the Army and our MOS was 31P (25P now, I do believe). My wife was in for 5 years and I extended my stay to just over 5.5 so we could get out at the same time. We both did telecom work in the Army but our first contractor jobs were as systems administrators - my wife as a Unix admin, and I did Windows.

What field are you in?

I am in the USAF as Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Specialist. Currently I am on my 1st deployment to Afghanistan. I am on my 4th month now and I am hoping to go back to my home station (Germany) soon. I am planning to get into IT field once I seperate.

The only experience I had was building my own computer. If you have a clearance, use it!

i got out 10.5 years ago and am doing quite well
i just got a promotion/raise and am making almost 3 times what i made as an E-6 when i got out

life is good!
