Freedom of speech is a two way street. I enjoyed watching the protests, especially when reporters interviewed the protestors...because there was not one definitive reason or rationale for the protests, and some of the opinions expressed were as dangerous, misguided and troublesome as any of the rhetoric coming from Trump. This is a false equivalence.
It's also a fundamental misunderstanding of today's events.
The media and the Clinton campaign created quite the spectacle definining Trump as some horrendous monster that must be defeated at all costs. This was the inevitable emotional response to that strategy failing spectacularly.
There were also many voters deeply emotionally vested in the idea of a female President in their lifetime, which ironically they probably would have if they listened to the "concern trolls" warning of Clinton's vulnerability in a populist toned election year.
Let's see if Democrats can channel this energy in two years to legislatively box Trump in.
