Does it have even a fraction of credibility in your land of opportunities?

And...

Regardless of whether or not it does or doesn't, does anybody actually watch the shite they put on it?

Pretty much just this guy.

I wish.

Fox news has done a pretty good job of hypnotizing its viewers to believe exactly what they want: that Fox is a credible news source. Simply consider their mantra: "Fair & Balanced." Or even O'Reilly's "No Spin Zone." Yeah, right. My ass, they are fair and balanced! But they repeat it oft enough that their loyal viewers believe it.

My grandparents are prime examples. My grandmother regularly touts the credibility of Fox news because "they always show both sides," she says. Yeah, that's what they tell her. Has she ever gone to look for another side? No. Why would she? Fox uses their slant to tell her exactly what she wants to believe and simultaneously convinces her that they've equitably and exhaustively presented any competing or dissenting viewpoints. Well, now... that's awfully convenient!

That's not to mention the constant fear-mongering with which they bombard their viewers. Some of the headlines I've seen literally make me hang my head in sorrow for the poor masochistic saps that continuously subject themselves to that crap. "Fuzzy baby kittens -- THE NEXT TERRORIST THREAT???? News at 11!" Whatever you do, don't ever get the idea that you're safe or secure. Everyone should be suspicious of... well... everything! It's all potentially lethal! Your dishwasher detergent! Your hand lotion! Your children! LIVE IN FEAR!!!

Fox sucks. End rant.

I'm a conservative, and once upon a time, Fox provided a more fair and balanced alternative to the other general media sources that tended to lean liberal. Then fox discovered that by being "ultra patriotic" and only presenting the viewpoint most of it's viewers subscribed to (conservatism), they could garner an even larger and more loyal base of viewers. That process continued until eventually the fox news network became an empty propaganda shell pretending to be a legitimate news source. It got so bad that I could not stand to watch it anymore. Now I watch various sources, including BBC, MSNBC etc.

If someone tells you they watch mainly fox news, you pretty much know they are mostly ignorant of the real world around them and lack the curiosity to seek out alternative viewpoints on anything.

I don't see why everyone bashes on fox so much and not the rest of them equally. They all spin news the way they want. If you want the truth, listen to multiple sources and decide what you want from the pack. But to say fox is shit and cnn or anything other than fox is truthful is such a stretch.

Why is it people do this?

I used to watch it, but either I changed or it did. Either way, it seems to be nothing but fear mongering now, no better than those daytime shows to get stay-at-home moms to freak out and lock their babies up in their rooms.

The final death blow for Fox News was that news parody show they have. It's a play on the Colbert Report, but the difference is that the Colbert Report comes on Comedy Central. Fox is supposed to be a news organization.

Fox News Watch is about the only worthwhile thing on the network.

Oh, and for the record I'm a fiscal conservative and a social libertarian. Someone will always ask in these threads. I should note that my opinion of CNN isn't any higher. I've never watched MSNBC. I get all of my news from the History Channel. It's 50 years late, but it seems pretty unbiased.

Fox News have been shown time and time again to get it's talking points directly from the white house. It's garbage. I've seen garbage from other main news sites, but not nearly as bad as on Fox. Whenever I get a headline from Fox, CNN, or MSNBC, I head to other sites to check the real scoop, like BBC, the Guardian, and NPR.

I don't believe any one source... Frustrating, to say the least.

Reminds me of a funny quote from Howard Stern. He says that he watches Fox News, and enjoys Fox News. He usually ends up throwing his shoe at the TV, but he likes it!

Every station does that same crap.

Every time anything out of the "normal" happens, every single news channel ask the "terrorism" question.

At least he decides for himself, instead of having it spoon fed to him like all of FAUX News viewers.

How is this any different from any other cable news? They all pretty much operate on the same model and have 24 hours a day to fill and they fill most of it with stuff that used to be local news but in the age of wall to wall media coverage has been elevated to national news.

The final death blow for Fox News was that news parody show they have. It's a play on the Colbert Report, but the difference is that the Colbert Report comes on Comedy Central. Fox is supposed to be a news organization.

Although it has not changed my viewing habits I'm somewhat in agreement with you here, I'm not sure what they were thinking with this one.

Fox News Watch is about the only worthwhile thing on the network.

Oh, and for the record I'm a fiscal conservative and a social libertarian. Someone will always ask in these threads. I should note that my opinion of CNN isn't any higher. I've never watched MSNBC.

At least when Fox News goes political they generally have spokespeople from both sides and allow them to debate it out. I've seen Chris Wallace pin down people from all sides in his interviews and he is generally pretty persistent when they try the bait and switch answers to his questions. I think it is pretty funny that people get their panties in a bunch about Fox News. There is no doubt it leans to the right center politically but given that CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS and NBC all range from left center to straight left I have to think that the republic still has plenty of platforms for the left to spout from.

I get all of my news from the History Channel. It's 50 years late, but it seems pretty unbiased.

The stuff I have watched on there does seem to be revisionist free which is refreshing for what passes for history today.

All the news programs suck. Why? Because it's about ratings, not about reporting the news.

Can you ever have a disagreement with someone on AT without sounding like a grumpy old carp?

Twice in a row, when a republican gets caught in a sex scandal, they label them as a democrat. The 1st time, i thought it was a mistake, the 2nd time i was pretty sure it was intentional.

It's not any different. I'm sure that there is 24 hours worth of news going on in the world, but Fox and CNN devote about ten hours per day to missing blonde teenager 433, ten hours to "We're all going to die tomorrow due to..." and the other four hours to finance news. The finance part is fine and is really the only thing I watch on Fox News except for Fox News Watch. I think that Fox News has some people who really try and be balanced and legitimate, but they're overwhelmed by people who are just trying to make money. Of course, aren't we all?

At least when Fox News goes political they generally have spokespeople from both sides and allow them to debate it out. Sometimes I think the Fox hosts don't let their guests actually speak. Then again, when they do let them speak, they let the guests get away with non-answers and other forms of question dodging. All news media leans one way or the other. I was a news director for a small radio station which wasn't at all comparable to Fox or CNN, but I still had to choose what stories aired. Some things got cut, some didn't. There's your bias.

The stuff I have watched on there does seem to be revisionist free which is refreshing for what passes for history today.
It's not too bad. Other than the local Fox station (love those 90s reruns), The History Channel is just about all that I watch.
