Another case of GOP rash in the skivvies with the Dems being blamed for giving it to them.

And the Democrats are now being blamed for the mysterious chain of events, will then fix it for the Repubs and then the Repubs will take the whole thing back and claim it as another one their successful accomplishments.

I mean, hey, Trump is trashing/obliterating Obama's legacy even as he enjoys Obama's economic recovery efforts and is now claiming it as his own doing, so there's precedence here to perceive things in that way for Trump and the corrupt Wisconsin GOP politico's.

As silly as it is, leave it to the Repubs for blaming the Dems why Wisconsin decided it needed a Dem governor.

Makes sense? No, of course not, but past history has shown that the Repubs up on the hill will never take responsibility for their actions and their Repub constituency will of course prefer to behave in kind rather than blame themselves for problems of their own design and effort.

Ergo, it's those damn heathen Democrats at it again.....and again....and again.

Wisconsin is truly a tragic case of conservative propaganda destroying a state. It had the education system, infrastructure, and potential to be one of the greats but threw it away chasing trickle down.
I actually remember when Wisconsonites were sane moderate people. Hell, the only mostly rural state that in every small town there are at least 3 bars.

Republican states spend billions in subsidies and get nothing in return. Meanwhile Amazon is hiring thousands in New York after AOC and company told it to fvck off and stop asking for handouts.

First, I disagree with the size and scope of the Foxconn subsidies. But let me say those subsidies don't count as money "spent" by the government unless Foxconn meets certain goals that allows them to actually claim the subsidies.

As a Wisconsite, I hope FoxxConn spends my money wisely.

Edit: and to be fair, they'e only (so far) admitted that the "Innovation Centers" are idle. - that's about 1,000 jobs.
The factory is still "in the works" but at a snail's pace and with constantly moving goalposts

But the factory doesn’t exist yet. The company is now aiming to open it in 2020 after repeatedly shifting its deadlines. It’s also reduced the planned number of jobs and the size of the factory from the original 13,000 jobs and 20 million square feet to a 1,500-employee, 1-million-square foot facility that will no longer produce the promised big-screen LCD TVs that were part of the initial contract. Earlier this month, the company announced, scrapped, and then re-announced plans to build a giant, nine-story glass orb that would serve as a data center.

Nope. Bullshit detected.

The bulk of the tax benefits were contingent on job creation

Foxconn’s agreement with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation “does protect the state to some extent if Foxconn falls short of promised job creation,” said Timothy Bartik, an economist for the Upjohn Institute in Kalamazoo, Mich. “But the capital investment tax credit, in particular, does not seem to fully adjust for this if Foxconn ends up doing a much less job-intensive and more capital-intensive project.”
At this point, the cost to taxpayers across the state is likely minimal. The company has said it will forfeit tax credits for 2018 because it fell short of the hiring target on which they were based. The company did receive a sales-tax exemption on some purchases of material, Mr. Bartik said.

This was one of the dumbest deals in US history so people in Wisconsin should be very happy it's largely fallen through. Scott Walker was seriously one of the dumbest governors I have ever seen.

Also, it would be nice if the federal government stepped in and took steps to discourage states from doing this sort of dumb shit.

Having the federal government nanny states as if they can't possibly do stupid shit is just not a good thought process. I think it's been well proven hundreds upon thousands of times that our federal government is just as stupid.

It falls on the people we elect - and really, it kinda just falls on the flaws of our democratic system to be honest. The job of people like governors, congressman, senators, etc... is to appease citizens. So if you rack up debt, who cares as long as you get re-elected by making people happy by bringing more employment? If a debt problem looms I'll hopefully have money bags to retire and pass the problem along.

It's just like the federal budget - do you really think people vote for someone based on that? Your average voter is too stupid to even consider debt. They just want to know if they can get a well paying job (even if they are entirely skill-less people) and who is going to bring it to them (like a baby crying).

"WAAAH WAAAAH! I want a job! Someone magically give me marketable skills
"Sure! We will give tax incentives for big shot companies to build here JUST FOR YOU!~ Vote for me!"

"WAAAH WAAAAH! I want more money! I can't afford 6 children even though I was fully aware of what I was doing when I had them!"
"Here! Have some more money! We will make other people pay for it!"

It's the same that you can see time and time again - even with the likes of your stupid candidates like Warren. Pete Butty called her out on paying for shit - and yet she still clamps down and refuses to acknowledge that the lower and middle classes will actually have to pay for things because she knows that her base is just nothing but freeloading incompetent buffoons.

WAIT WHAT? WE will have to pay for that? THATS UN 'MURICAN! and UNACCEPTABLE!

I don't think you've thought this through, the federal government has tons of easy ways to disincentivize this without nannying anyone. For example remove the tax edit: exemption for state and municipal bonds, which significantly lowers incentives for dumb borrowing to fund things like this.

I hope people don't vote for politicians based on concern with the federal debt because if they do they are stupid. The federal debt is fine and frankly considering the low rates we have we should be borrowing more to fund infrastructure. I think people who are concerned about the federal debt don't understand how sovereign debt works.

Elizabeth Warren's base is college educated white voters and she pulls stronger numbers from people making over $100k than she does from people making less than $50k (in fact she's the number 1 choice for people making over $100k). She's also brilliant and has a ton of good ideas, which is why she's by far the best candidate for president. (I knocked on doors for her this weekend!)

I guess my point is if you're going to call someone stupid you should probably make sure you're not saying something stupid and wrong about them in the same paragraph. After realizing that her base is actually affluent people does that change your mind? I think if you learned more about her you'd probably find out that her policies are actually really, really good. Far better than any policies being put forth by any Republicans.

Policies in which you have to lie to your voters that the middle and lower class won't have to pay taxes is something I can never support. Sorry.

"Ideas" in and of themselves are great - but when it comes to politics I honestly don't care about your childish ideas. I want cold hard facts of how we will accomplish your ideas. Otherwise they are just pipe dreams... which is what millennials and stupid young people are all about. Great at ideas. Zero for execution.

While she might be good with democratic voters - the BASE of any democratic candidate isn't rich people making 100k+.... Mostly because even if 100% of those making 100k+ voted for you then you're still only talking about roughly 10% of the voters.

Nobody ever said that, so I think you’re safe.

Sounds like you should be a Warren supporter as compared to any politician on either side she excels in the cold, hard facts.

I mean you know as well as I do that fiscal conservatives live in a fantasy land. That’s why every time fiscal conservatives get power they blow up the deficit with fantasy projections of growth from their tax cuts and why when fiscal liberals are in power you get fully paid for policies like the ACA.

For real, if you care about facts like you claim it’s straight ticket Democrats for you from here on out. If you were trying to craft an ad for Warren this post would be a pretty good start as she is the #1 cold hard facts candidate on either side.

Oh so when you said her base you meant the people who prefer other candidates to her. Lol.

I mean you weren’t just wrong, you were as wrong as you could possibly be. You described the #1 choice of rich people as the person with the poor base. Just own it and admit you fucked up.

I agree she should be upfront about it, but also hammer the point that they will be saving money overall by paying less for medical care. Tax rate going up doesn't matter one bit if at the end of the day your net income is more.

Wisconsin still has to spend money supporting FoxConn with infrastructure and educating its workers. FoxConn came in as a freeloader.
But the bigger issue is that Republicans don't get the fundamental realities about knowledge based economy. It's about attracting and retaining knowledge workers, not companies. Amazon is hiring thousands in NYC even after being told to pound sand with no tax break because that's where the people it wants to hire want to live.

So proud of my state during this. Governor basically said we will give you zoning exceptions and help with roads/parking but that’s about all. We have the educated workers you want that is our value.
Sort of throwing the ball back to amazon. You need our workers we don’t need your headquarters.

And yet here you stand, ready to vote for the party that has been blatantly lying to you for several decades about trickle-down economics, deficits, etc. When they had the chance to enact their best policies for 2 years, rhose same people spent 2 months and created a massive tax break for corporations and the wealthy which had almost zero impact on the trajectory of the economy.

Congratulations on being such an astute observer of what the other team is doing wrong.
