The answer to that is that the GOP has stated outright that they will not vote guilty on Trump no matter how obviously guilty he is unless the public demands them to, and even then they might not if they think they can get away with it in their home state. So what Democrats need is to show the public the crimes that Trump has committed in a way that even Trump's supporters can understand. That means that they need testimony from the people involved, they need documents detailing the crimes, and then they need to have everything spelled out in 4th grade level small words so that the GOP can not ignore it.

What the Democrats need is public opinion to move enough to make obstruction by the GOP untenable, because the GOP has declared that this impeachment will be completely tried in the court of public opinion.
That's not what Mitch said. He said if they have to investigate they will. That didn't mean they will follow through with an impeachment conviction.

Consider Mitch is running ads that say vote for me to stop the impeachment, I don't really think it's going to be much of a sincere effort from the Senate unless public opinion really threatens the R majority in the Senate.

One thing I'm thinking is that Mitch may have limited control in a trial compared to the House. The reason I say that is that neither Mitch nor Pense preside over the trial but the Chief Justice, and that means the SCOTUS may have a say in abuse but who knows?

Nothing is certain, not even the next hour in this impeachment.

Mitch is not the only GOP person. Graham was even talking about a pack that basically said that they would vote non-guilty no matter what the evidence shows. The fact that the GOP will not convict unless there is overwhelming pressure to do so seems to be one of the few things everyone, Liberal or Conservative, here can agree on. I'm fairly certain I've read posts where you agree on that point as well. So, what do you disagree about in my argument?

And poor Trump cries that he's being lynched, which is utter offensive crap. But "Double Down Lindsey" did better.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham defended President Trump’s "lynching" tweet from earlier this morning saying, it's "pretty well accurate."
“I think that’s pretty well accurate. This is a sham. This is a joke. I’m going to let the whole world know that if we were doing this to a Democratic president you would be all over me right now," he said.
This is a lynching, in every sense. This in un-American," he added.

No wonder why the Trump administration violating law is a good and natural thing for someone as reprehensible as Graham.

Good old Lindsey with a friend.

Your faithful GOP with a loyal supporter.

Poor conservatives... what is the answer to these people that punish themselves AND hate any talk of mental health or therapy?

They are so deep into sunk cost with Trump... I fear something horrific could happen when he goes down (in impeachment or election defeat, or worse if he postpones the election or some other nonsense).

The interesting thing about the 'truth is not truth, evidence is not evidence' delusional reality mindset is that when it suits them they can all of a sudden discover that they never supported Trump in the first place and they knew he was a crook from the start! They will have no idea why all those other people supported him, but they certainly didn't!

i can't figure out which of the 20 impeachment threads we have is the thread ( ) so i'm posting this here:

Here's some more about Taylor

What House Democrats are saying about Taylor's testimony
From CNN's Haley Byrd
Democratic lawmakers are reacting today to acting US Ambassador to Ukraine Bill Taylor's testimony, which is happening right now on Capitol Hill.
Members indicated Taylor's deposition will continue for a while.
Here's what they've said so far:
  • Massachusetts Rep. Stephen Lynch: He said Taylor’s testimony "is a sea change." He said Taylor’s testimony could lead the committee to revisit previous witnesses. Lynch would not specify which witnesses he would like to hear from again. He also said Taylor referenced personal notes that he took and that he kept “extensive notes on all of this.” Lynch continued: "I think it could accelerate matters. This will, I think, answer more questions than it raises. Let’s put it that way."
  • New Jersey Rep. Tom Malinowski: He said that Taylor’s testimony has “resolved any remaining doubts I may have.”
  • Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly: He said the testimony confirmed what he already believed. He also said that the need for John Bolton’s testimony appears more urgent every day.

I bolded Connolly's statement about Bolton. I think it unlikely that Bolton will defy a subpoena and once he testifies? I don't think the political sewer system of DC can handle the amount of crap dumped in Trump and perhaps the GOP's lap. Hopefully, he'll be heard from soon.

John Bolton, the savior of the Republic by bringing down Trump? That would be a lifetime of the ironic fulfilled.

No, I don't like Bolton so there

Reminds me of something funny I read the other day, saying basically: 'Everyone knew John Bolton was going to try to bring down a government when he was made National Security Adviser, it's just surprising it's the US government.'

If he turns out to be the Saviour of the Republic he will have earned a little respect from me, he would still be below a cockroach but he would at least be above dog shit.

He's a Neo-Con piece of shit that helped push us into war in Iraq and has been an advocate for war with Iran since 1979. I only ever remember him serving and pushing for war under Republican Presidents so I would definitely call him a pol.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like one of you guys is talking about Bolton and the other is talking about Taylor.

Most interesting is that Taylor's testimony linked the aid to an ANNOUNCEMENT of an investigation into Biden, not any actual investigation. Seems like Trump was looking for the headline, not the investigation.

This is of course not at all surprising.

I guess I should have made the fact I was talking about Bolton obvious like I did with my second post on the subject.

This is of course not at all surprising.

It's exactly like how Trump desperately pushed Comey to make public declarations that he (Trump) was no longer under investigation by the FBI and that no matter what, he desperately needed Comey to say that publicly, and understood that it didn't have to be true.

That was, I think, the last straw for Trump and why he said Comey was fired.

It was established long before Trump's candidacy that dude pretty much spends all of his "working hours" up in his tower office, pouring over magazines and newspapers gathered by his secretary, reading and cutting out and saving every single reference to Trump. ...this is literally what he does with his time. I think Trump is just eternally tied to this "reality-through-headlines" existence that he has created for his fundamental failure of an actual life as any kind of businessman or leader.
