Fragmenting this group

I don't know if I am the only one thinking this, but maybe we should consider having this Operating Systems fragment. Considerations along the lines of WindowsXP & 2000 form Other Windows from Linux, xBSD & MaxOS X (BSD in disguise) would probably help those not wishing to sift through the abundance of XP topics to find something useful for the Win98 or Mac needs.

Ideas?

I like the idea of having all OS topics in one place. It gives even casual users an idea of the issues faced by users of many operating systems.

Besides, if we had one category for each OS, even just major ones, there would probably be a dozen or so. Then there would be the problem of people comparing OS's from different categories (which category does "Linux vs. XP" go into?). It would be a moderation nightmare.

No, keep things like they are.

Please re-read the post. The suggestion was to group Win9x/Me in one group, XP & 2000 into another, Linux & xBSD & MacOS X into another, MacOS per-X into a forth, and so on. Not individual groups that focus only on one version is a particular OS.

Even if they were grouped into major categories like suggested, there would still be quite a few. You list 4, but you could add BeOS and possibly a Misc section. I am afraid fragmenting will result in people not posting/reading in the correct area. Does the search function not satisfy your needs?

About every other month or so, someone brings this topic up. It hasn't happened and I cannot think of a situation (other than WMC) that would lead to a new forum.
