Umm, Jane Leeves is English. She's not from Manchester, which is where her character is from. But its hardly "fake".
Eh? She does a mediocre Mancunian accent. Its not her real accent, its fake. A Mancunian accent is a sub-type of British accent. Ergo she does an accent that is both fake and British. Hence a fake British accent. OK maybe it needs a comma, as its not the Britishness that's fake - a fake, British, accent.
Doesn't hurt the show though. Just ironic that the guy who plays Martin grew up in Manchester and could likely do a better Manc accent than Leeves does.
What is ironic is that David and Kelsey knew diddly squat about wine & opera and John Mahony had to teach them.
Also the fact that he's gay. Which is hilarious when you think about all the episodes he made fun of gay people and english people.
Its not ironic at all.
Check his bio. The guy went out of his way to lose the accent and as a rule only plays American characters.

When Daphne's ex-fiance comes to visit, she tries to let him down easy by pretending to be married to Niles. However, when Frasier, Martin, and Roz get involved in the charade, the evening spirals out of control.
i never really liked Kelsey Grammer, something about him grates on my something
just can't get his vibe
watched Cheers on/off
never got into Frasier, too high brow for me
Yeah my parents always watched Frasier and I did too growing up. It was fun.
The highbrow "jokes" are in the same vein as the nerdy "jokes" on The Big Bang Theory. They're funnier if you don't understand them. And they always have to play off their blue collar dad.
