Kelsey Grammer's new show "Boss" on Showtime is supposed to be really good.

He recently won "Best Actor" in a Drama at the Golden Globes last month.

Umm, Jane Leeves is English. She's not from Manchester, which is where her character is from. But its hardly "fake".

Eh? She does a mediocre Mancunian accent. Its not her real accent, its fake. A Mancunian accent is a sub-type of British accent. Ergo she does an accent that is both fake and British. Hence a fake British accent. OK maybe it needs a comma, as its not the Britishness that's fake - a fake, British, accent.

Doesn't hurt the show though. Just ironic that the guy who plays Martin grew up in Manchester and could likely do a better Manc accent than Leeves does.

Its not ironic at all.
Check his bio. The guy went out of his way to lose the accent and as a rule only plays American characters.

What is ironic is that David and Kelsey knew diddly squat about wine & opera and John Mahony had to teach them.

Also the fact that he's gay. Which is hilarious when you think about all the episodes he made fun of gay people and english people.

I concede that those two facts are indeed rich in irony.

It was (for most of its run) a great sitcom. Preferred it to Cheers (but I wonder if that's because it was aimed at a slightly different demographic?)

That in no way invalidates the irony of the situation. Someone fully capable of doing a great accent watches someone else butcher it. The ironing is delicious.

Thats not irony thats life.

I can eat pussy like a fucking PhD in Pussology. Watching porn stars mess it up all the time is inevitable cuz none of them is as good. If you are awesome you will always have to watch inferior people do it worse.

Hey baby, I hear the blues a-callin' Tossed salad and scrambled eggs
And maybe I seem a bit confused, yeah maybe, but I got you pegged!
But I don’t know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs they’re callin’ again.
Scrambled eggs all over my face. What is a boy to do?

I thought that was a Liverpool sort of accent. Don't know too much about various British accents. That was just my impression.

Great show.

My favorite episode was "The Two Mrs. Cranes" (Season 4, Episode 1, Aired 9/17/96):

When Daphne's ex-fiance comes to visit, she tries to let him down easy by pretending to be married to Niles. However, when Frasier, Martin, and Roz get involved in the charade, the evening spirals out of control.

(My favorite part is at 19:30-19:37, but you kinda have to watch the whole episode to get it.)

Great Show, even taking into account some of the inevitable dip in quality during the later seasons.

Niles and Daphne are one of the best sitcom (or any television genre) couples ever imo.

Apologies for the Necro

Frasier is still one of my favorite shows. In fact it's in my DVR queue list for recording.

The show was best during the first 5 years, when Frasier worked at a radio station.

Two cast members were English, Jane Leeves and John Mahoney. Leeves' character Daphne was from Manchester, where Mahoney was born, and he taught her the subtlties of the Manchester English accent.

I used to watch it with my mom. I haven't seen the last two seasons, but I really enjoyed some great episodes like Frasier's take on a radio play or the Valentine episode with Niles falling unconscious several times. I preferred it to Friends (which didn't like, because I find it too focused on sex jokes which became awkward and boring after some time) or other series. To tell the truth, I really prefer British sitcoms (Red Dwarf, Black Books, IT Crowd, Monty Python's Flying Circus), but Frasier had style and the arrogant egomaniac in the lead is something that ensures hilarity.

watched Cheers on/off
never got into Frasier, too high brow for me

I loved Cheers!

Never watched Frasier when it was on but its a pretty good show to watch on reruns. I had no idea it ran for so long.

DAMN NECRO!

PSA: Only the last two seasons are in HD, they were shot that way. The rest were shot on video and theres no point in trying to convert.

Cheers was shot on film and all episodes are now in HD

Yeah my parents always watched Frasier and I did too growing up. It was fun.

The highbrow "jokes" are in the same vein as the nerdy "jokes" on The Big Bang Theory. They're funnier if you don't understand them. And they always have to play off their blue collar dad.

I liked the show... I watched it when they did re-runs for a while a long time ago. It would definitely keep my station pegged.
