With the lack of self policing, widespread underage drinking, sexual assaults and such, honestly banning frats probably isn't a bad idea.

I keep being told "the positive things frats life provides outweighs the negative." I'm admittedly negatively biased toward frat life, have never been a member, but did party quite a bit at frats when I was an underage undergrad.

I struggle to see why you need to throw parties rife with hazing and sexual assault in order to do some volunteer work.

I am certainly understanding that are plenty of frats who don't emphasize partying and do quite a bit of community outreach... But at what cost to maintain the system?

Not to mention it furthers exclusivity and favoritism above competence. Sort of like 45s executive appointments.

Frats are just the college version of the social elite model we have in this country. I do really believe that abolishing them would make us all better off.

My first year at University Sigma Nu got in a lot of trouble because they hospitalized a guy for parking in their lot and doing a mock lynching. Great bunch of fellows.

You wouldn't believe half the stories my wifey told me about the sorority she was in. Those girls sure knew how to have a good time. But this was back in the 70's. Don't know how things are now, although I suspect things haven't changed much.

The ones I knew just bitched endlessly about the political infighting and utterly pointless day to day stupid shit their sorority expected from them while the busy body "leadership" was just grooming them for the frat boys and demanding they binge drink themselves into near unconsciousness so I guess they wouldn't be awake when the seemingly inevitable sexual assaults happen.
