Fraud alert on my credit card :(

So Chase called today, said some fraudulent activity was suspected. Sure enough, a $400+ charge at bestbuy.com that wasn't me. And a $2.43 charge at some outdoor advertising company before that as a "test" to see if the card was valid, I guess.

Chase declined the transaction though and they're sending me a new card overnight.

By the way... my card information was stolen from gotbody.com. I found an email from them in my junk folder notifying me they had a security breach and my name, address, phone number, credit card number and email address were stolen.

Always a bummer. I've had my debit card replaced 3 times in the past two years, and it was alwys because of a security breach somewhere that didn't involve me (stolen laptops or what have you). It's especially annoying getting collections called on you when your automated payments stop working because of something that is entirely someone else's fault.

Yeah, I'm going to be spending this evening getting all those automatic payments sorted out. I have like 8 or 9 bills charged to my card just to make paying them all easier.

yeah I am in the middle of that, they hit my card for 4 grand. they cancelled the card tuesday and the new cards showed up Saturday, wonder why they are overnighting you cards and didnt do that for me

My wife and I have cards tied to the same account (different card numbers). In May she went on a shopping spree in Brazil. A few weeks ago I apparently had a rash that needed attention so I went to Walgreens in Louisiana and spent $200.

Not sure where our cards got compromised but obviously somewhere we both shop. Was never notified by anyone that had a any breaches though.

Cards were with Chase and the overnighted.

Hmmm, I googled "gotbody.com" as I had no clue what it was and the site is down and it seems they have a lot of complaints about them charging you for extra services you didn't sign up for and sharing your credit card number with other places so I would really recommend you don't give them your new number.

Sounds to me like it was a less security breach so much as them giving other people your card information.

I've been purchasing PowerBars from them for the past year or so. I never had any issues with them sharing my information or enrolling in some sort of membership, so I have to assume it was a real security breach and that the people complaining about being enrolled in a membership furiously clicked through the ordering process without reading and ended up signing up for something they didn't realize they were signing up for. It's been a while since I've ordered from them, so I don't recall if there are excessive check boxes that are checked by default to sign up for those type of things.

I find it very hard to believe that a company could get away with actually GIVING other businesses customer credit card information. That would be the ultimate PCI violation and banks would stop doing business with them.

I won't be doing business with them again, though. A breach of that magnitude makes it painfully obvious their admins know nothing about information security.

*EDIT* I suspect the site is still down because they haven't identified and/or fixed the vulnerability that allowed this to happen.
