Fat Wallet Cash Back for a new BB Online membership is $19. The first month is $9.99 typically, so you can get $10 free doing it that way.

You can cancel whenever you want.

I have joined as a "new" member 4 times in 2 years. The issue you run into is that they (and NetFlix) start to throttle you if you return movie quickly.

There are a lot of folks who work nights, they get their mail in the morning, watch the DVD then return it the same day. When this is done both NetFlix and Blockbuster impose intentional delays that limits their "unlimited' plans to an average of 12 DVD's per month on the 3 DVD out at a time plan. For instance, you send a DVD back and while it used to take 1 day for them to acknowledge they received, when they are throttling you it might take 3 then they might take 2 or 3 days before they send out the next discs. It is extremely frustrating.

Blockbuster also gives you 4 in-store coupons so they are a much better deal than NetFlix.

The only known way to beat the "throttling" is to either report a lot of discs as damaged, missing, whatever which can get you cancelled, or to simply sign up for a new free trial every few months.

Blockbuster is slow. Got my first on a Friday, mailed back on a Monday, but they didn't receive it back until the next Friday and I didn't get them until Monday...when free trial is up, I will cancel. This is my first time with them, so they shouldn't be throttling me yet.

FYI, the distribution center is only 60 miles away.

is there a limit to the number i can rent (from B&M) in a day? my blockbuster is 3.6 miles away so it's close enough to make several trips in a day.

Backlit:
This trial is for the online blockbuster only. They will email you a free rental per week to be used at a B&M blockbuster.

There used to be an unlimited B&M plan. I think it was $25/month. I did a $15 trial of it once, but that was a while ago. Haven't heard about it recently, so it might be gone.

That's odd ... I'm pretty sure I average more than 5 a week. I have the 3 out at a time plan from netflix. It is annoying when you turn them in on a friday and you might not get one til monday and the monday one you return you get your next one tuesday or wendesday. I guess it does take more than a day sometimes.

Typical pattern is receive movies on Monday morning, send back Monday evening, the movies actually get to NetFlix on Tuesday, but they let them sit and don?t acknowledge receipt until Wednesday, then they delay the outgoing movies until Thursday and even though it is a one day trip, a lot of people don't get them until Saturday. Repeat cycle.

I have had both NetFlix and Blockbuster service for a long time and both services have provided me virtually the same service except for BB provides the coupons. After you are with either service for a time and are a heavy user it is virtually impossible to get a new release, that is where the BB coupons come in handy.

Getting even 16 (12+4) movies for $19.13 per month $17.99 + tax is a good deal in my book. If you end up getting more that is even a better bonus.

I haven't tried Blockbuster yet, but our Netflix had always been good. We rarely had a wait indicator and always got the newest movies way early. I sent it on Monday, got a new one on Wednesday, then a new one on Friday, and repeat. I usually got between 30 to 33 in a month, but that was awhile ago when I had free time on my hands. Now we just go to the movies, it really is less of a hassle which is good because time is money.

I guess the magic ingredient was to never stick with them for more than a month at a time, that way they don't throttle the service.

Yep, that is the key. Typically the first month goes gangbusters.

I think this is usually a seasonal promotion, or was out before Blockbuster's online service came out to compete with NetFlix.

Netflix was better for me simply because mailing them back Monday evening would get them there Tuesday morning (as long as I dropped them off before PO closes on Monday evening... so before 5pm). New movies ship out Tuesday, get to me on Wed.

BB takes the same, except movies ship out on TUES but take 2 days, meaning they can only get there on THURS. Can't really do 6 DVDs/week =/

How to sign up more than once? I tried, it did not allow. Four months ago, it was bad; one neighobrhood store is closing down, assumed on-line rental should improve around this area.

You're not supposed to sign up more than once... that's why it's for first timers only.

Try getting a new address and identity and it may work.

We belong to BB and we usually get 2-3 day turnaround. Mail on Monday, they receive Tuesday and mail out that day or next at the latest, and we get it either Wednesday or Thursday. We live in Northern VA, near DC. We've been with BB.com for ~6 months and the service has been consistently fast in my opinion.
