Edit: Sorry, but I do not believe most of our members are within the intended market for this offer. Hitting them with the "AnandTech Effect" would be unfair to the company.

It's safe to say that unless the GC is being offered directly from the company's website, it's probably not valid.

www.zoomerang.com doesn't sound anything like starbucks, and if it were this easy to get $10 in starbucks coffee they wouldn't be making any money. $1-5 I would understand. Coupons for certain amounts off or buy one get one free, yeah, 10 dollars for signing up, maybe answering a few questions that have nothing to do with starbucks... no way.

You have to understand this: The only way they could afford to give away this much money in gift certificates would be if starbucks was giving them to zoomerang, and that would mean that starbucks would want something... usually a survey only to be ENTERED IN A CONTEST for the GCs. Gift Certificates are "as good as cash" in the understanding that it can only be spent at one place. You can't get 10 dollars in gift certificates for any cheaper than 10 dollars unless you get them from a second party. This company could not afford to buy say.. a thousand dollars in GCs (if only 100 people sign up, and we know more than that probably already have).... and you probably aren't paying attention anymore, but what it boils down to is that YOU WILL NOT GET ANYTHING.

Have to respectfully disagree. Organizations conducting surveys desire information - yes, at times, only a few lines or so. As a reward, they do in fact give out various gift certificates to a multitude of companies that are completely unrelated to the information sought.

Case in point : a not-to-be named "online" university gave out $20 gift cards (each time, and surveys were conducted reguarly. I did three myself) for Amazon, Target, Starbucks, etc for a five minute phone interview regarding the surveyed individual's opinion of online education, from the standpoint of a working professional. Obviously, the gift credits to the various above listed were in no way connected to education; online, or otherwise. The organization paid for these certificates (usually, they are given a bulk discount. especially considering that the national average of cashed v. uncashed gift cards is 70% or so. retailers *adore* gift certificates for this reason), and then offered them as incentive to recruit a statistical cohort from which to draw data.

The end point is this - at times, organizations truly want and moreover need information from a particular cohort, and are indeed willing to pay for this. I am certain many others here can attest to this fact.
