Free $25 if you purchased an older Model Playstation and Had it Repaired (Class Action Lawsuit)

If you purchased a model# SCH-1001 or SCH-5001 Playstation and had it repaired you are entitled to $25. I just got something in the mail about it today...it appears that there is a Class Action Lawsuit against Sony because there was a defect with the old playstations that caused them to malfunction. Sony has decided to settle the case and offer each qualifying person $25 or a PSOne game. If you had your Playstation repaired, then you should recieve something in the mail.

I'd imagine it was. THe first US model of the PSX unit had major laser probs. The laser unit had rails made of plastic. These rails are what the laser sits on and as you used the system, the laser moving back and forth wouls cause the laser to get further and further away from the CD due to wear. One was to fix it temporarily was to turn the unit upside down. Sony denied for years that they had the problem. It was fixed in later models. I had one of these, but did not let Sony fix it. They wanted $100 plus dollars. I fixed it myself, but I will not describe how. It was less that honest, but they deserved it

I agree. I had the 1st model. After a while, the performance was not good. I sold it, and bought a 7001, it was well worth it.

Ya well I HAVE one of the older models I knew somthing was seriously wrong when my two best friends and myself all had to turn our PS's over to even load a game. None of us did anything about it but now that its a known issue I feel better. Still wont get it fixed though...aint worth it. PS2 is still too expensive....and I dont want to waste $ on a new PS1. So basically I'm screwed...I'll just keep flipping it over

haha, my guess also... but isnt it the retailer who suffers, not sony, from acts like that? Well, I guess it depends.

I still have my SCH-1001 but I replaced the laser myself. wonder if I can squezze in on the deal. The laser assembaly did cost me $35

No no quite, I didn't just return a broken PSX. I don't want to get into it, it was wrong and I am sorry I did it. Broken units that are returned, get sent back to Sony. Sony repairs them and re-sells them as re-furbs. Like the units you get at funcoloand. If you still have a unit with a bad laser, you can get a replacement for like $30 now...do a search on goolge
