anyone have any luck getting the ads off and formating it to the full capacity?

I was wondering the same thing...does it show up as two disks for anyone else?

Got what Yurkinator got. When I put in in the USB port, got some IBM splash screen, the 2mb partition shows up as Itsm Key, and as a CD rom drive in Explorer.
Any one try the HP format software that was posted here?

Got mine today - plugged it in, it found the drive, brought up an IBM splash screen and rebooted my system :-(

Tried it on my second system, same thing.

All my other myriad of thumb drives work great...

Both boxes are running fully patched Win2k ... have to find my laptop running XP and see if it does the same thing....

Update: The POS blue screens XP too - an IRQ not equal to error message. Oh well at least I got a free USB extension cable.

Hmmm, don't have a company. What do they expect from us students? My dad's business is through his house... you think they'd send one to a construction company?

It seems like it took about one week to get the drive. I was able to format and use 26MB of the drive. I'm actually not sure if this was there all the time. When I inserted into my USB port, the IBM program started automatically. It lists this 2MB partition as a CD drive called "ITSM key." I'm not sure if the other 26MB drive was loading automatically, because I already have a card reader which lists a couple of "removable disks." I suggest you have My Computer running when you plug it in and see if another drive shows up, that is besides the 2MB IBM advertising stuff.

If not, you can get this space by going to Control Panel, Ad Min tools, Computer Management. Under the Storage, Removable Storage, Media section, you will see two listings for "USB Disk 2.0", which is what this drive is called. It won't let you do anything with the first one, which is the 2MB IBM advertising. But the second one, right-mouse click on this and choose "tasks, free." Once I did this, I found the drive, albeit with a relatively small 26MB of useable space.

Like I said, check and see if the space is there without doing the Computer Management stuff listed above. It would be most useful to be able to get rid of the IBM stuff because this autoplays on insertion.

Even with the 26MB of space, I still think the USB extension cable is the best part of this deal. If I can get rid of the stupid IBM autoplay stuff, this is a pretty nice little USB drive.

BTW, I suggest you "rename" the 26MB partition to something like "IBM drive." This way you know which key drive you are dealing with. Right mouse click in My Computer to rename the drive.
thanks so much for the easy to follow instructions SimMike2. they worked like a charm.
now if only the IBM adverts could get erased.

I plug it in my computer and it crashes my system and makes it restart. It works on my brother's computer though. I guess once I remove the stupid IBM software it will stop crashing.

Got mine just 2 mins ago as well. Hmm, funny how they set it up to have 2 partitions and one of them being configed as a CD drive so you cant just format, repartition and delete the info.

Let us know how this works out I'm really curious about how the key is set up, actually.

Apparently from what my guess so far is that company that supplied these keys "Trek" is one of the top encryption/password protected thumbdrives.... i mean ridiculous $180 for a 64mb thumbdrive.

It may just be a resident encrypted file on it. May be able to do a real full format outside of a windows environment.

Any Linux heads get in on this?

"About USB Disk Pro
Secure your personal data with USB Disk Pro. USB Disk Pro has some new features.
Unlike USB Disk, the USB Disk Pro was divided into two partitions, for which one of the
partitions is 1.44MB, same size as a floppy disk; and the other partition takes the balance."

I got mine in the mail today. The USB extension cable is nice... it will probably be of more use to me than the memory key.

If this stupid autoplay ad stuff could be removed this would be a more useful item. Anyone had any luck?
