I can see "lots of others" have gotten theirs doesnt mean i will get mine or when you try to short the R's may not work every time.

now when I plug it is the led light stays steady and it says insert G drive

same happened to me, now reset it while plugged in r8? on the back next to led jump that and hold.... 10-15 secs

if light is still stuck on then you need to short both 10 and 5 or whatever on the front at once (like you did accidentally to make the light stay on in the first place, in my experience)

mine wasnt too much of a pain i just kept pokin at it with a paerclipshorting them till it required a reset (light stuck on) windows found flash x25 or whatever aand i was good to go.

well after shorting the thing several times, now the light stays on. Windows detects a 25x usb device, a drive "q" pops up but it says no media is inserted. I've shorted it some more, tried shorting r8, etc and the light still stays on. Now what? I also can't seem to find the talk about it on fw.

GOOD NEWS!!! For all those having the solid red light problem! Don't throw your key out! This is what I did to revive my key when I had this problem. I tried everything everyone had suggested, and still nothing.

Then I noticed a post on the FW thread about this guy who just took a small piece of tin foil and just "raked" it over those 3-4 resistors there (BC5,R10,BC10,etc.) repeatedly and got it to work that way.

I was already frustrated with it and figure mine was burnt out, so I gave it a shot, I had nothing to lose. And after raking over those resistors for a minute or so, I got the light to blink!!

Edit: If you're having the write protected error, check the lock/unlock switch and make sure it's not locked. I didn't realize mine was in the locked position, and as soon as I switched it, it let me format the entire drive.

I thought the same thing, but I didn't have anything to lose. Besides it's not like the sparks are like 5 feet high, they're hardly noticeable.

I'm telling you, if you rake it along there enough it'll revive your drive. As crazy as it may sound.

Well so far raking it over everything does no good. Sure it shuts off the drive (resetting it??) but when it comes back on then the led is stuck back on again. Between time my pc is making the sound it makes when you insert and remove a usb device. I've been messing with this for hrs now and its still useless. I'm afraid that i'm going to screw up my motherboard somehow by constantly shorting the usb connection like this.

i myself have been playing the fiddle with this "free" object for maybe half an hour (taking breaks to "fluff" my tin foil of course).... Im sure I wiped out every circuit on the baby and I hope that I can still produce healthy semen.

This free usb extension cable is friggin AWESOME! Well and possibly do a couple LED mods with the usb connector... just unsolder it.

First of all, you don't want to rake it over EVERYTHING, just those 3 or 4 resistors there including BC5, R10, and BC10. I got the same thing as you did, it made it turn off and then back on, but I just kept raking different ways on those resistors only, and eventually I got it to blink again. Just keep raking! lol

If people are having problems with the solid light, you can send them to me and I'll see if I can revive it for you like I did mine

That is, if you haven't already intentionally fried it lol

You know, this is really a lot of effort for such a small possible benefit. Sure, it'd be cool as a boot disk, or as a portable "floppy" replacement, but so would a pocket CDR that is worth about fifty cents.

That said, I've been trying to free up the 32MB for about an hour with no luck, trying all aforementioned methods in this thread

Here is a picture of the usb key, with the section boxed in red being the part you're raking the small piece of tin foil over
