Probably not that great - you get what you pay for. Although, it SOUNDS OK with real DSP, allegedly not powered by CPU:

*Employs the C-Media 8738 DSP to provide TRUE 6-channel sound output and support for 4.1 and 5.1 speaker systems

*Features 6 Channel DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) with support for 4.1 and 5.1 Speakers

But I wonder why THIS is a requirement:
AGP 2.0 or higher expansion port

I have on of these in an old socket 7 Shuttle HOT567 board with a K6-2 500 and it works great in 2 channel operation (2+sub). Ain't no AGP anything on this box.

It's gonna take a looooong time to get the rebate. I logged onto Office Max to try to get updates a couple of times and finally go the rebate about 6 months + later. I also had to register on MadMutts website too as I recall. Hell starts to freeze over then your rebate shows up!! >)

I bought this same card from OM in July that was FAR of 15.99. It took 5 months and repeated calls to get my rebate. No Maddog products with rebates for me again. Now they want you to pony up 25.00 to get this for free. Fine for people that don't mind the hassle.

I think newegg has a comparable card for $7 + shipping (= $350 at newegg but still). Have one of those but never tried it out - no PCI slots free.

I'm 50/50 on MD rebates. I sent in two (2 different products) fall of last year. One rebate check came right away, the other I'm still waiting on. Last word, 7 - 10 more business days...

I had the C-media 8738 on my Iwill KK266 mobo. So it's the same as you would find as older integrated sound. Worked fine with my Altec Lansing ACS54s. My new mobo has Realtek integrated sound, and sounds the same to me. The only quirk I had with the C-media was I believe in Win2k that the newer drivers didn't work and I just had some old WHQLs that worked best, but XP probably took care of that issue.

They charge an extra $1 handling fee, but $7 w/o rebate is definitely the better choice.

Have you ever bought from these guys? Their resellerratings is only 2.5/10.0. 10 of 14 said they were dissatisfied.
For 7.00 it's a great deal if they come through.

DO NOT BUY YOU WILL NEVER GET A MADDOG REBATE !!! I have owned 2 products from them and never got the rebates for both, i bought a mx440 agp, the quality was low as the card crapped out after 8 mo. and rebates never came, out $60, then i got a cr-rw drive never got rebates for it ether, on top of that them make u got throug a painfull product registration, after all that i will NEVER buy a maddog product again !!!

Secondly, you can get a used SBLIVE! Value on eBay for $10 bucks, and its superior to ANY AC97 Codec.

i've had a lot of trouble getting maddog rebates. so far, i only have 1 outstanding out of 3. but the 2 that came took forever and multiple emails to the rebate center.

I bought this last time for $5 with a $5 rebate. Its not a bad card for the money. They said they never received my rebate information! Since it was only a $5 rebate, I never followed up on it.

Not to thread crap, really just a warning.

Mad Dog does not honor their rebates. Luckily I've only succumbed to one of their so called 'Free' after rebate offers. Never again.

Dude i don't think everyone else got the picture yet from the other 15 people saying that they do not honor their warranty. I posted this because I have had no problems with them but many people have by the look of things. Don't buy it if you are afraid of the honor of the warranty, but damn people don't slam my thread.
