Searched and didn't find, so here goes.
Ripped from Ben's.
Use the $5 Movielink Money code below to download a movie now, or input the code in your Movielink account for future use. No subscription. No credit card required.
Movielink link

edit:
I've used this before with another promotion. If you just put the $5.0 in your movielink wallet, there are certain times in which the downloads are 0.99 each. In fact there is 0.99 movie nearly every day. Movies otherwise start at 1.99-3.99 or so. So it's possible to get 5 movies for free.

Movielink have surround sound? How is the picture quality- comparable to DVDs?

I know they claim to have high definition movies, but I can't seem to find any.

Picture quality is less than a DVD. They don't have HD movies AFAIK but they did have something called HQ movies (a few of them) which were twice the usual download size. The normal size for a 90 min movie was 500-700 MB. The HQ version were roughly double that. I can't find the specific HQ version like I did a few month ago.

Both Sin City and Hitchhiker's Guide are over 1Gb, so I guess the newer movies are HQ (whatever that means). WMV9, at the higher bitrate I suppose. How's the sound? Is it surround?

At $5 a pop I don't see how they can sell this stuff. I can buy an on-demand movie on my cable network for less than that.

Hey Wag, you're right. They do have HD movies. Here are FAQs
Don't know abot the surround or not. HD sizes are bigger than the beforementioned HQ movies. 2.5 GB or so.

File size and download time
In order to deliver high-definition video and audio, HD file size has increased to an average of 2.5 GB. Download times for most HD movies will be approximately 3 hours, depending on connection speed

Edit:
Found this:
How do I know which movies are High-Definition?
High-Definition movies are labeled in the movie title as "HD."

High-Definition Encode Rate
HD movies are encoded in 720p minimum with 192kps stereo audio.

Can I watch HD movies on my TV?
Yes. Click here to learn about PC-TV connections.

Looks like it's just stereo.

I've only been able to find 2 movie trailers in HD. No full movies.

I can't update the WMP files to watch movies anyways (always fails), so I guess I'll just forget it.

Well I got it working. There are some good movies in the "Classics" section, Dr. Strangelove, Conan, Omega Man, etc. Just look around. As I said there are some new ones like Sin City and Hitchhiker's Guide too.

But...with no surround sound and mediocre picture quality I wouldn't bother if it wasn't for free. There are absolutely no[/i] full HD movies available.

Are the email addresses you're using based outside the U.S.?

UPDATE: Got the same thing (ineligible) after attempting to submit a second email address. Had to clear out IE's "cookies" to qualify again.

Remember you cannot burn these movies to a disk.
These files have DRM and after a certain time they cannot be viewed and
end up to be a waste of hd space.

I hate that!

(college link - just look for the HD free movie samples link)

You can't update if you don't have certain services running on XP.

Are only the 'rented' downloads DRM protected? They have permanent downloads, if those are DRM protected, that would stink.
