Thanks for the heads up Hawkeye! These are good quality drives made by Afreey. Actually, the DAE on this drive is exceptional. It's #9 out of 179 drives rated for DAE @ CD Speed

"Prime Peripherals" is just a rebadger of OEM supplied drives.

Good post, though price matching with CompUSA is a given, meaning they don't always do it, cause of their rebate.

Could only do ONE PM per customer. No problem have two CompUsa stores here in Paramus NJ. So did a PM @ each. One store did call OM 2 see if they were in stock before PM.

ONEEIGHTY was 100 % correct they are rebadgers " Afreey " drives inside.
Loaded one up threw the other in the closet with the rest of dups lol.
DAE works just fine ! Again ONEEIGHTY was correct.
Again darn good for free !

great deal.
went to CompUsa and PM with OM ads i brought. it went without a hitch.
also got the TDK spindle... they only have 2 of the twin 50pk spindles, the rest are the 100pk spindle (made in taiwan).

Off topic: was checking another possible PM.

I called Officemax about pricematching. I was told by the CSR (after asking manager) that they only pricematch Office Depot, Staples, ect, but not to "speciality" stores like CompUSA and Best Buy.

Is the OM in my area beeing cheap? Or is this policy?

Anyone happen to know who pricematches with who, on a regular basis?

It's their stupid policy. I've tried to argue it with them. They say BB & CompUSA are not competitors since they're not "office products stores". I say anyone who sells the same product as you is a competitor, but ok. Just reinforces the fact that OM/OD/Staples are just in the electronics/peripherals business to get you in the store to buy envelopes and pens, the real money makers.

Well i got the 50x CD (Free) after rebate.

First I called CompUSA (dumb) they yanked my chain, about how they dont PM sales (yeah right)

So I went down to OfficeMax (went in, they had a drive) asked them to hold it for me (leverage). Walked to CompUSA (they are right next store), grabbed one from the shelf, grabbed the rebate, went to the Customer Service counter with OM add in hand, asked for a PM. No hassle. the friendly CSR hit some keys, and $29.99 plus tax.

Went back to OM and thanked them, no longer needed it.

I just went to Comp USA and they would do if, but the office max did not have it in stock. so im going to try back thursday or friday. GREAT JOB!!!!!! on finding this!! This is the whole reason why i come to the hot deals section, other than the free stuff. ( :

Anyone that has the 2 flyers will have no problem. Cause as luck has it, CompUsa PM policy is on page 10 also and it is RIGHT UNDER the picture of the cdrom.

The drive in the box was again an Afreey drive. Same as with their DVD drives.

Seems to work, and the stats are pretty good for a "free" drive.

CichliSuite the saleflyers come stuffed in the Sunday's newpapers. It's the stuff that falls all over the floor when u open the paper up. Kinda like those postcards that come in PC World,Computer Shopper,WinowsMag etc. That fall out, go in between your legs and make splash. While u r @ your own personal home library.

I don't understand the results at the DAE speed website.
The drive that scored #1, lists owner comments, and many gave it very bad marks.

On the other hand, my Sony drive, which ranked #101, reads everything at max speed, and no complaints.

Im not sure about the results either.

But its in my 3rd Game/Lan/on the road PC, so I could care less about reviews. It works in my box (and was free) , thats all I know.

You get the flyer from OfficeMAX, they have them right on the checkout counters.

Been working fine in my box also. I have been ripping cds for 3 days straight now!100% better than the 40X it replaced. And tks to Sept 67 for posted the facts on the cdrom !

My CompUSA was unfortunately out of drives, so I couldn't PM, but I picked up one at O.M for $30 anyway. This drive is quicker and less noisy than my last 40x Creative drive.

I just wanted to add that this drive IS compatible with CloneCD, and can read the "Subchannel Data" and "Subchannel Audio" track information. This relieves a big problem with my Iomega 12x10x32 burner (CompUSA $99 deal, wohooo!) and Creative CD-rom that wasn't capable of reading that subchannel stuff.

All in all, this is a great deal at $30, let alone free. Jump on it.
