Will pricematching be the downfall for these stores? Aren't they onto what people do yet or do they just not care? I am all for us as consumers getting great deals, but wouldn't you think these stores would catch on eventually? I'll stretch those dollars till they are begging for mercy.

Rambler, the sticks I bought have Infineon chips on them. Infineon's web site lists the chips I quoted (HYB39S128160CT-7.5) as 2-2-2 at PC100 and 3-3-3 at PC133. The label on the stick also says "PC100 CL2".

GoodDoc, I don't think they lose that much money on all these deals. They usually limit the quantities and have only a few, at most a few tens of those per store. On a related note, in the store I went in today they had the free after rebate PC camera installed and working -- I could see myself and judge the quality -- not that bad for free camera. And they had several dozens of it, unlike the memory of which they had a few only.

Punkie,

Thanks for the info. Went back at got two of them. It is kind of strange but Compusa has two different packages for the ram. One is the one in the ad showing it as CompUsa brand and the other is PNY (orange packaging), both run up as the same sku though. I'll go in on Sunday and do the pricematch but if it doesn't work out can you email me a copy of your receipt. Thanks a lot.

I have never had problems returning stuff at CompUsa. At my local store, they even take opened software if you exchange it for something else (must to be equal to price or more). I had never bought before the sale but that was before I found this forum. (Missed out on the Iomega deal and had to go through ordering online).

My store had six when I went earlier. When I went back, they had 4 instock and I picked up another 2. Hope they get more stock cause come Sunday there are going to be some really angry people.

Thanks for all the help. Gotta love this forum

Hope I got the right ones. I got the PC133, both the sticker on the package adn cash register receipt show SKU 271005 but it's the PNY packaging. It's also Samsung chips. The PC100 had Infineon chips. The part # is K4S281632B-TC75 and it's CL 3.

How is it free? Where's the MIR? Is it only for instore purchases or online? And isn't it only on sundays and mondays?

Someone who got ahold of the rebate form says that the rebate is only good for one stick of 64 meg per household. Can anyone confirm that?

The ad clearly says that there's a limit of 2, but I guess that could refer to the purchase only, not the rebate.

Still not bad at 128 meg for $30, but not near as sweet as 128 meg for nada. I'll just have to return my extra stix.

Kinda OT historical note: In looking at my records I see that on 4/18/98 I purchased 16 meg ram at compusa for $50. It was also a 100% rebate (I think I had to buy a HD to get the memory deal) and the only one that I never received. I moved cross country shortly after I submitted it and forgot about it till late last year. A bit too late to do anything about it, although I tried.

I wouldn't mind knowing as well if someone has the info on the rebate.

No I haven't pm'd it yet. It looks like the deal's a bust. The info came from a compusa employee so when you consider the source it's not too big a surprise that it's a no-go.

I'll just return it tomorrow when I pm the memory. Too bad though, I have another one of these cases and it'd be a great deal at $30.

Oh well , on to the next deal.

1. I went to Comp tonight and picked up two sticks of the PC133. It is PNY, has -7.5 Infineon chips on it and is in a CompUSA package.

2. The 64MB 144 Pin SODIMM (notebook memory) has -8 Infineon chips on it (PC100), and is in a PNY Package. (my friend got those)

3. The rebate coupon DOES say 1 per household, etc. The ad DOES say limit 2. I figure I will argue with them about this tomorrow (but not too hard), and simply return one of the two chips as necessary.

Other potentially useful information:
Store: Troy, Michigan
The TDK 25 pack CD-Rs and the 10MBPS NICs were not to be found ANYWHERE in the store. Either the 15 they have for tomorrow's sale were in the back room, or the store just didn't have any. Looked like they had about 100 of the PC133 64MB Dimms that are free with rebate tomorrow, all stacked up behind the counter. The CSR said that he thought they might last as long as 1 or 2 PM on Sunday. Quanties looked MUCH more limited on the notebook memory, and the PC100 (although I don't know why anyone would WANT the PC100 anyway). I talked to a nice CSR who told me that he has the free Kensington camera at home, and that it sucks (disco effect, light to dark with white spots, etc). For what it is worth, I believe him. He recommended a better camera, but I just thanked him for the advice, and didn't buy one. Looked like there were about 12 of the sound cards left, and 20 of the modems (after I bought mine in advance).

Good hunting,

Nack

I also just bought two sticks of the PC133 memory. The guy behind the counter at the Framingham, MA store just handed them to me before I said anything! The rebate is limited to one per person, but a friend can help with that, if you get two receipts. Also, I had to "remind" the cashier that it was $29.99, not $49.99. I guess they were overwhelmed, as about 100-150 people we lined up to get into the store at opening time.

Also, the TDK CD-R's are often well hidden. I looked and looked, but could find any. Then, I went to a completely different part of the store and found a pallet with dozens, if not hundreds.
