I thought it's free shipping then I would pick one up. I mean I don't need it since I already have 2 router + 1 switch at home sitting in the box.

The switch, it only let traffic go to the computer it intended to while the hub it will let the traffic go everywhere. And with most router you have an option to turn it into a hub.

Newegg probably has no presence in the state of Indiana, which means a Use tax would apply toward that purchase. In theory, you should voluntarily pay use tax on this item to the state with your next state tax filing. Nobody does that though, even though they should. The state can't track these things (or doesn't enforce use tax in such a manner).

right..recently in AT there was a thread saying that newegg have started charging tax in NJ too.

Got a question on this one. I currently have a 4 port wired router as well as a 3 port wireless router. Will this work:

Put modem in walk in closet and connect it to the wired router through the LAN port. Run one of the LAN ports out of the wired router into the wireless router in the living room. Run two of the wired ports to two pc's locatred in the same room as the walk in closet.

Run the 4th LAN port from the wired router to the uplink of the 8 port switch. Run 4 lines out of the 8 port switch to two other bedrooms and the master bedroom as well as on to the living room (just in case).

BTW, all of this will be going to wall RJ45 wall plates. Using Cat6 network cable. Also the wireless router will strictly be for my laptop so I want it centrally located in the house (living room is center). Also I want a line in the living room in case the wireless router gets flakey.

Might even run one of the switch ports to the kitchen for the heck of it.

Is there any "junction box" (for the lack of a better word) to keep all the wires looking organized inside the closet?

Guess I should copy this over to networking since this is Hot Deals but I figred someone would set me straight.

I did something like this and it worked fine.

To be proper something like a simple WAP would be better but use what you've got.

Two issues:

Unless you can turn off the router/fw features of the wireless router you may be "NAT"ing twice. This can be unhealthy for some applications. If you are only browsing the web with the laptop you should be fine, and truthfully I have never had a problem with it.

I reveresed what you did and put my wireless router outside my wired router/fw. That way I don't have to worry about WAR drivers getting inside my security perimeter though they could still hijack my connection and see my traffic.
