that's pretty good considering most people who sign up and pay for a gym membership only use it for about 8 weeks

Stay away from Bally. They are the worst fitness club you can possibly go to. If you try them out, do not get suckered into signing a contract. They will hold it to you no matter what... I went through absolute hell to get out of mine after they sold their building and wanted me to travel 8 miles to another location just to workout. And CRUNCH fitness is bascially the same as Bally for those who don't know.

LOL i was just about to buy a year membership, another reason to scroll through hot deals frequently,

yeah there was talk about how obnoxious Bally was on people to get on a contract, but the bally in New York that i went to last year did not bother me at all, so i think it varies from management from club to club?

they are the shady used car salesmen of gyms.

you arent signing a contract, its a loan... why else do they need your SSN... read EVERYTHING.

support your local independent gym, not corporate slugs like ballys.

of course, I kinda chuckled seeing this offer, since ballys is about up to eyeballs in debt

QFE. IF you do go in for the free trial - make sure that's all you are signing up for and don't let them pressure you into signing up for anything else.

As others have said - support your local gyms - they are probably a lot cheaper and the equipment is probably a lot cleaner too.

So what personal info can I give them to sign up? Student ID, department credit card, virtual credit card, driver's license,...

I went in on a 3 year with them, and got divorced this past year. They would not let me drop or even transfer the addition member on my account at all. The ex moved out of state, nowhere near a bally and they still refused to do anything. I am just happy I only have 1 more month left of my membership!

I had to contact the VP directly through email and he got back to me within a few days to let me out of my contract. That was after numerous other emails and contacts. My local Bally could care less to help me out. Their employees and managers were worthless.

http://www.aboutballyfitness.com/

check it out... there used to be a better page out there with all the details...

i dont know if they will let you set up an account with out a SSN.

basically, instead of signing a commitment saying you will pay X amount every month, they are lending you the total amount, and you are on a payment plan.
they will ravage your credit score if you try to leave.
and the total they said i would have to pay over 2 years ended up about $200+ more because of the little details of this loan.
i did some research and found out this was not uncommon.
luckily i got out within 3 days of signing up, and CT law says im not responcible, but i made sure to send them a letter detailing every loophole they might use, and sent them ALL materials i had.

the old website got shut down... heres the detail

bally's sales people are very nice compared to their collections department. when i was in college and smoking a lot of pot i forgot to exercise and forgot to pay the bill. i remember that call from their collections department to this day. she actually screamed at the top of her lungs. what a bizitch?

Thanks for the deal, I've been meaning to go to a gym and getting this 2month free pass looks like the motivation that will get me started!

10 things your gym won't tell you

BTW, these guys suck.

Eight years after my wife and I legally cancelled our contract, when we were applying for a mortgage loan, our lender pointed out a collection account on my wife's credit bureau. Luckily I kept the contract, copy of check to cancel and the business card of the manager. It took a letter from my attorney to their corporate offices to remove the collection. I did get a letter of apology from the president, but it should never have happened in the first place and it shouldn't have taken the threat of legal action to remedy.

And they have the nerve to send me renewal notices every 3 months to this very day...sixteen years after the contract was cancelled.:|

Actually no they aren't... most gyms are understanding if they relocate and let you out or at least offer another alternative. Bally would not let me out of a contract, even after completing moving their location to another county. That should be grounds to let anyone out of their contract. They wanted me to drive to another location through an hour out of my way of traffic just to workout. I originally signed up with Bally ONLY because they were conveniently located 2 miles from my apartment. There were at least 100 people signing petitions to get out. I just ignored that route and ended up going to the regional VP to get out.
