how much are the guys selling the cards on CL?

found one on cl for Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT OC - $70

is that a little over priced? the upgraded card is retailing for 150ish so that'll still be a good deal.

You can get a 9600 GT from newegg $75 or less after rebates. If you want the 9800 GT, you add another $50 so you're talking $120 at that point. A quick look at newegg shows several 9800GT for $110 AR.

looked it up on newegg, it's about 100 after rebate. cl guy lowered price to 50, so save about 50 dollars. still not a bad deal.

thanks

edit: for anyone who's upgrading, are they charging for shipping? tax? thanks

I'll update you when I get home and finish registering mine.

Edit: Waiting for the email with instructions now
Looks like it follows standard BFG RMA procedure, you pay shipping for sending your old card in.

This is an excellent deal. I have a Winfast (POS!) in a 6800 flavor. Too bad for me.

On a somewhat related note, Best Buy has a PNY 9800GT 512MB for $99 this week. Be sure to consider that before heading to Craigs List and paying $70 for a 6800GT to ship it to save $20 off the cost of a new card.

Nice deal. Wish I could do this with my Leadtek 6600GT. I think I still have an MSI 5600 as well...

Would there be a significant performance boost from the 9600GT to the 9800GT? I have a 6800 OC and am trying to decide if it is worth the $50. I'll be using the card for HTPC and light gaming purposes.

I had a similar thought - I choose free because I'm cheap and don't game often enough.

in a lot of games a 9600GT is right up there witha 9800Gt.

i'd say if you are playing the absolute latest games , that are mostly FPS it would be a difference.

probably not worth $50 honestly unless you are say a ut3 or crysis or farcry 2 player with a 1920x1200 monitor

This is incredible...I've never seen a hardware company do this. BFG has won me as a lifetime costumer...pending the receipt of the new card of course.

My login is not working. I signed up and entered my card just fine, and it sent me my info by email, but it won't let me login now. Hmmm.

And the email also says "If you have trouble logging in call..." Blah, now I have to go through phone support just to log in?

I'm trying to decide if the upgrade for $50 is worth it, too.

Just thought I would post my experience with this program. I had sold my brother my old BFG 6800GT OC. I told him about the program and he wanted to do it, so I filled out the forms (since I was the registered user) and had him ship the product. He got his new card without any fuss and it is working in his new rig.

Great deal.

Thanks hans007 for posting this!

Even though the prices on the cards dropped, I paid the $50 for the 9800. Oddly enough, I was going to replace the 8600 in my wife's computer with this. I attempted to play Fallout 3 on my main rig, which has an 8800gt. Fallout was bugged badly and freezes at a critical part of the game.

For shiggles, I installed F3 on the wife's computer, and it runs pretty nice on the 8600. I finished playing the game on that computer. Without thinking, I upgraded the card with the new 9800, and it start glitching in other ways. (Apparently F3 doesn't like 8800's and it's family....)

Regardless, I have the card, and it was running great. At least a very warm deal anyways! Thanks for posting OP!

I was not aware of that issue with Fallout 3, having put in over 60 hours on my 8800GTS.
Once I put this card in my desktop, I'll have to see how it compares.

I decided to bump this thread. I opted for the $50 upgrade.

I sent the old card in on 12/29 so we shall see how fast they send me my email to upgrade. I was going to Ebay the old card anyhow, so this was a good deal I reckon.

And the offer is no longer available to those who missed out. But I still show an upgrade option for my 8800GT OC using a different upgrade program. Keeping that card though for a different rig, heh.

I did the same, opting for the $50 upgrade. They received it on the 23rd, and I had the email from them how to get the new card one or two business days later. Very quick turntime...I wish an RMA I have pending with another retailer was anywhere near this kind of service.

Very strange, I haven't received any further info from them and I registered about a month ago.

I'm also in the non-reply category. They received my card on 12/22 but I haven't gotten any more info...need the card to get my rig up and running again!
