Free advice, plz

Ok first off, lets assume unlimited funds (cause that's fun)

I'm running a GeforceDDR right now and I need to frickin upgrade. It runs stuff like SoF2 fine, but with stuff like Splinter Cell and UT2k3, things get a little hairy.

So, there's really only two options: ATi or nVidia.

I want to lean toward nVidia because I love how long my original Geforce has lasted. Comparing their new card to the 9800Pro, however, is making me look at the Radeon line. BUT, I've heard something about the next-gen(?) nVidia line, NV35 or whatnot. I don't want to shack up with the 9800Pro and have my ex-girlfriend come and blow it out of the water in a couple months, know what I mean? Now, I'm aware that we could do this forever because new research and development is a continuous cycle, but I want your advice on what I should do: buy the 9800Pro (not really interested in the 256mb version), or wait longer for the new new nVidia card?

Is there any speculation at all on the NV35, maybe a release date? Q4 2003 maybe?

Assuming unlimited budget, I'd go with the 9800Pro.

On a more realistic (limited) budget - look for a cheap deal on a gF4 Ti4200. I seem to recall much posting about them being US$88 - in this case, the Hot Deals Forum is where you should head. If you're looking for just a little more oomph at a reasonable price, the Radeon 9500 would do the trick quite nicely.

Avoid the geForceFX series like the plague. (This coming from an nVidia fan. :Q)

Yes BB and CompUSA and stuff are carrying PNY GF 4 Ti 4200s 64 mb for 79.99. Also Some people are even finding 128 mb version in those boxes. What a steal! As for Radeons the Catalyst Drivers have come a long way but they are stilll glitchy IMHO compared to Nvidia's detonator series. But otherwise I am happy w/ my R9700 Pro. Oh one more peice of information for you is that I hear that the game splinter cell is very cpu bound. Especially at lower resolutions.

Rumors are that they are begining final testing on it. i have heard rumors that it could be out as early as July. It is basically everything the nV30 should have been. I wish they would put GLIDE support on it. There is nothing that keeps them from doing it, i mean they own it, right?
