Does anybody knows if there is a free Android offline navigation? I tried few navigations but there wasn't any navigation app where you could set where do you want to go.

CoPilot Live is perfectly functional and feels a lot like a vehicle GPS, though some people report out of date maps. I haven't run into any issues, though. Google Maps will also cache your route if you can at least start with a data connection.

If you didnt know, Google Nav will work offline once it initially gets the route.

So connect to wifi at home, get route and your on your way. Not sure about recalculations and stuff, you sure as heck wont have traffic lol.

i just stumbled across this over the weekend. i was messing with it, letting the nav show me the wrong way to get to where i was going and realized i still had roads when i lost signal in the mountains. pretty cool.

This was pretty much exactly my experience. I was very impressed with it.

I have found googles traffic info to be pretty much useless. It wont report traffic congestion until after I've been stuck in it about 10 minutes.
And if has it at home on the internet before I go out its usually not news. Like 66 being backed up into DC.
Well, its ALWAYS backed up going into DC, thats not unusual.

Tell me about it. Plus with all the 495 construction I'm almost afraid to take the highways at night!

I think Google's traffic reporting is somewhat based on average congestion patterns learned over time. Wouldn't surprise me anyway, and it would be nice to see that make its way over to offline maps.

I thought they used realtime data from phones? I swear when I had a Pre, one of my questions was "submit location data for things like traffic reporting."

Thought, I didn't see that when I was setting up my EVO3D.

Regardless, I love leaving work and seeing "oh, it's only yellow" and seeing a line of cars on the beltway. I listen to WTOP as a backup anyway, so I'm usually ok.

I was talking about the website, but google maps mobile and web based are both supposedly real time. But it seemed like they were always way behind on the real time. Usually my car was wedged between a semi and a soccer mom van before it told me there was gonna be traffic.
Its better to just know what the bad routes are and also keep up with road work schedules in your area.

I've had the complete opposite experience often here in California...

On Friday, right before the big holiday weekend, I was on-site with a client in downtown LA. A colleague of mine mentioned she needed to drive ~2hrs away through rush hour traffic to get home. Just for shits and giggles I fired up Google Navigation and as she was walking out the door, I told her which freeway to take and that she would be there in 1 hour and 20 minutes. She laughed at me and said she had never once gotten home that quickly leaving so late on a Friday. Sure enough 1 hour 20 minutes later I got her dumbfounded call saying that the estimate was right on the nose!

Again today, Tuesday right before rush hour I had to make a run from Beverly Hills to Manhattan Beach. Again, Google Navigation routed me against traffic on the 405 out of LA, missing the rush exodus probably by minutes, and on the return trip down La Cienega saving me at least 30 minutes on the 405 (I saw the gridlock forming on the other side of the freeway on my way down). Very accurate advice.

There is clearly some adaptive logic working on Google's side which allows Navigation to plan your route to bypass major problems. While it's not 100% accurate, I'm able to see a clear advantage to using it on long trips through the Los Angeles/Orange County area.
