Thanks! I've been looking for something secure like this. Let's hope I can get an eval unit.

Is this key worthless if you don't but their line of products to use the key with? It does not seem like it does anything by itself.

pretty much, basically they give you 6 months of authentication free. it authenticates to their ras server.

never said it wasn't free.

it really is designed to be a Beta or Test sample for someone interested in setting up the whole system.

how to replace?

call them they will replace and reprogram for you, i believe it's $25.00 a key.

one of the biggest complaints of this product is that it doesn't come with a cap, so if you use it on your keychain, you will damage the usb thingy and it won't fit after a while.

Open the run box, type in SYSKEY. Screen should pop up. Choose update. Store the key onto the disk. You will now need this key to get windows started. More specifically, you will need this key BEFORE the login screen even pops up.

I don't have floppy drives around anymore...all replaced by USB thumbdrives.

but you can do this with ANY usb storage, yes?

also, does this work for remote access?? authenex really is at its best when using a remote pc to access a Terminal Services Server or Remote Desktop.

Syskey encrypts a local system for local access, will it work for remote?

I was just posting that quick fix for parasitic. It doesnt say anything about trying to read the data from USB...it specifically requests the floppy be inserted. I dont think it even gives you a choice of where to pull the file from. Stupid in my opinion, id rather use my 16MB USB stick i got for free. More reliable than floppies.

This key is used to start the machine up, so I dont think there is any remote access offered/involved but Im not entirely certain of it.

If anyone knows where I can actually buy one or two of these, please let me know. I have a feeling that at the end of 6 months I'm going to really want and need one.

I am sure it can me hacked..cant it be

how would you hack it?? just curious as i am somewhat involved with this product.

it's only a 6 month demo because the key has to authenitcate to their RAS server, if they delete the key account from their server what are you going to do? hack their server and create the account again?

I saw the company at the SANSFire in D.C. few months back. The free key they were giving out then were to encrypt files. Like PGP only the keys were part of the USB token, so you need to have the key to encrypt/ decrypt.. They have a new product coming out which I am anxiously waiting for. USB token to encrypt your HD. I am getting them for all of my laptop users I admin here at work, so if their company laptop's (mine included) go missing, you will not be able to get the data off the drive. I spoke to them about 2 weeks ago and they said the HD lock should be coming out Nov. Or Dec.

People seem to think this is like their USB thumb drives. Well, it isn't. It is not used to store anything other then an encryptionkey (altho I think you can store a few types of keys on it). I believe they use 128bit AES.

I'm going to have to try one of those and see how I like it... I am looking at the e-tokens for remote access and logging on to laptops

All I care about is encrypted space on the key (built in) to store alll my passwords and accounts. I know alot of programs can creat secure space but I don't really like that for some reason. I wish there was a better implementation.

So can you encrypt a USB thumb drive to be used on any PC without installing software on the remote PCs?
