Chances are if you use the USENET newsgroups you're going through your ISP and probably have missing headers.

NewzPig is offering a free USENET account while they are in beta. They'll be giving 2 weeks notice before they start charging. Follow the instructions on the page and ignore the CC info input on the signup form.

I haven't tried it yet but from what I hear it's kind of slow until they get more lines up and the propagation isn't all that great, but it's a good last resort if you really REALLY need a fill for a post.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, uhh...ignore this post.

I know some giganews users and they are happy with it. Can't speak for the other two. I believe all hide your IP addy on usenet.

Deja news is free of course. Just can't read messages which are not X-archived.

I didn't know about usenet-access.com before, but I AM a Giganews user.
I cancelled from Giganews a couple of months ago because I had a broadband connection and they were only offering 2-64KB streams, which did me no good. However, they just switched to a Broadband-based service, or at least are now offering it for the people that want to take advantage of it. Retention times are quite good...usually over 100,000 headers in the heavily-populated groups on a fresh header download.

I feel if it doesn't make it to Giganews's servers, it's probably an incomplete everywhere. For current Giganews users who don't know about their new broadband service, they will kick you up .5 gigs/month for their lowest tier, and proportionally higher for higher-class service. It's so nice now to be able to download from a high-speed, high message retention service.

If Usenet-Access.com offers their service for whatever speed you can pull from them, they'll definitely get my look at renewal time.

cool, if you sign up now you get a lower rate when they do start.

"free" newsgroup servers require too much hard work to keep finding new ones for me, i'd rather pay a little money per month for a fast connection, IMO.

I have usenet-access. The speed is pretty good but you usually have to bounce between their servers to find all the messages since some servers have less retention.

I love the usenet-access.com account. They limit the daily download, but it is still a lot. And if I want to get around it, I just switch to one of their other servers and keep on going!

Let me get this straight:

So with usenet-access.com, the daily download limit is not per account, but per server? So if they have 3 servers, then you can download 1 GB per server (or 3GB a day) or is it 1GB per account ?

Also on an aside I e-mailed newzpig.com to ask them about download limits (they don't seem to have established any on their web site yet..) and got this back -- it was a silly web form and I put "Frustrated with my ISP NG" as the contact person..

No one metioned Usenetserver By far the BEST News server around, also note it may be the most expensive out there.

I will say You get what you pay for, rention is TOPS Speed is unheraled, U have the platnium plan

NewsFeeds.com is a pretty pimp place for newsgroup access. They have several news servers available depending on what you want to use. For example, they have a binaries.newsfeeds.com server that only has binaries newsgroups, they have one that supposedly filters out most spam, another one that holds messages for a long long time, etc..check out their website for more info on the servers they have.
