I admit it. I got the book to see the photos.

I mean, in an insightful disclosure of a public personality, the publishers wouldn't omit the "naked truth," as it were, would they?

I had an inquiring mind once, but it was refused. Yes.

Dr. Laura just happens to be one of the most listened to talk show hosts in the county.

It's amazing how so many people have a problem with someone like Dr. Laura who takes a stand on whats right and whats wrong. I've only listened to her a few times, but mostly what I've heard is simple common sense.

It's also amazing how much people don't like being told that they are responsible for the problems in thier lives.

I thought that the real problems with Dr. Laura were that she's a hypocrite who doesn't believe in divorce but is divorced herself, and as a therapist she's violated client confidentiality more than once, including with a client who was a politician.

If it's just a matter of liberals vs. conservatives, the conservatives are in the majority when it comes to talk radio, and conservative Dennis Prager doesn't receive any criticism of his morals (but he's a class act).

I've found that the more a person moralizes publicly, the worse their morals usually are.

Ha, sometimes I think she is right on, and sometimes she acts like an a$$hole. If it's true that her doctorate is not in the counceling professions though, I think she should let people know that. I think everyone assumes she is a certified counceler--and that is wrong to let people have that impression.

If I happen to run across her on the radio (I don't LOOK for her), if I think she's on to something, I listen; if I think she's being a bully (which she can be), I switch her off.

Wolfgang is full of shat. This country has quite a right, or rather corporate, leaning media. There might be some front people who are obviously liberal, but the money behind is all right-wing, and well so. In general, even the left in the US is pretty much right. Our whole spectrum is right. So yes, the likes of Chomskey are not adequately represented.

Gilby has it right. This "liberal media", etc, is just a convenient rant/myth--but everybody believes it.

If you think the media is "right-leaning", go to the best news website on the net - World Net Daily at www.wnd.com.

Take a good look back through the archives and see how few of the news articles there you have heard about in the "regular" news. And these are not fluff stories, either.

Then you'll start to realize how "left-leaning" the media really is, and how many stories get dropped because they don't suit the media's bias.

Shoot, you guys probably think the Washington Post is a balanced newspaper.

Please name a top-quality newspaper that is not left leaning - other than the Wall Street Journal.

JustStoppingBy, I share your bemused skepticism about the various "conservative news" sites (they're fairly tabloidish, occasionally getting a significant hit, but usually shooting a bit wildly from the hip), but I wish I could understand your blind rage against "Dr. Laura". (Especially since the supposed "reasons" for are that she used to be a moral liberal, and that she was successfully browbeaten by the left into toning down her comments.)

If the left wants to avoid the most glaring hypocrisy here, they need to do either of two things: either tone down substantially their own enthusiasm for hatred (as amply demonstrated by the continual profane personal smears against her), or just be honest and say that it doesn't oppose, but instead embraces hatred and intolerance for those who threaten it's worldview.

If history is any guide, we'll hear neither.

I'm sure that all the people that call her ugly are the most beautiful people on the planet. I'm also sure that the people who say she is full of hate have listened to her for at least 2-3 minutes. And the people who call her a hypocrite because of her PAST, don't know the meaning of the word.

Wolfgang is spot on in his assessment of the media. I've been in the TV news biz for about 20 years and have worked on national talk shows for about 4 years and have spent time in various other public affairs and mass media areas.

True the money behind the media may be right wing, but their oversight is primarily bottom line.

When you get down to the trenches, where the content decisions are made, the leaders and troops are leaning to the extreme left. This is not just my opinion; this has been borne out by countless studies and surveys. A often quoted survey indicated that something like 85% of the Washington press votes Democratic.

And you don't think that influences what you see and how it's reported?

Those are facts, this is opinion..

DL is abrasive, her use of the Dr. title is misleading, her style is annoying, and her life has had problems which leads to some of her advise coming across as hypocritical. But I fell the truth behind her opinions is right on the money.

Families are shoveling their kids of to day care because the need 2 incomes to ?survive?. B.S. As a nation we are sacrificing our children so that we can have a shiny new car every 3 years.

Parents are tearing apart families and exposing their own flesh and blood to the darkest sides of human nature because ?the spark just isn?t in the marriage anymore?. Cruel and selfish. The notion that couples should ?stay together for the kids? is a difficult one to agree with, but it is the right thing to do. Set aside your selfish impulses and desires and put on a very good act. Is it deceptive? Yes. Is it living a lie and presenting a false front to your children? Yes.

But by the time your well-adjusted kids find out the truth they?ll have the emotional tools neccesary to deal with it.

Of course if they can?t put on a convincing act and do separate, both parents should spend whatever money and expend whatever energy, and make whatever sacrifices it takes to provide a nurturing environment for the children.

Her basic message is that raising well-adjusted children is the number 1 priority of parents and society as a whole. I may not always agree with the messenger, but the message is irrefutable.

it is like this: you open your mouth as often as she does, and sooner or later something she says makes sense. but unfortuantely you have to trudge through a pile of horsesh+t, and mostly it is her ego. the world would be a better place if some people had a some of her common sense... maybe. but the world would _definitely_ be a better place with her not in it.
